Review[Organization of monitoring of electromagnetic radiation in the urban environment].
The authors describe new current approaches to monitoring the environment, including the sources of electromagnetic radiation and noise. Electronic maps of the area under study are shown to be made, by constructing the isolines or distributing the actual levels of controlled factors. These current approaches to electromagnetic and acoustic monitoring make it possible to automate a process of measurements, to analyze the established situation, and to simplify the risk controlling methodology.

Comparative Study[Hygienic assessment of combined action of ambient air pollutions in the localities].
The paper describes the experimental studies dealing with the reflectory and resorptive effects of a gas-vapor-dust-like mixture comprising sulfur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide, hydrogen fluoride, and suspension particles. The combined effect of the mixture when inhaled by animals was ascertained to present as the incomplete summation effect type. In the combined presence in the ambient air, the sum of shares of sulfur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide, hydrogen fluoride, and suspension particles should not be greater than 0.4 MPC of the isolated effect of each agent alone.

Review[Influence of chemical soil pollution on the population's health].
The author integrates information on the hygienic value of man-made chemical soil pollution on the population's health. He presents the results of studies of the pollution of soil and its contacting media (the sources of drinking water supply, ambient air, and crop production) with priority chemicals (heavy metals, pesticides, nitrates, nitrocompounds). The newborns and children under 14 years of age may run the greatest danger of being exposed to toxicants since all the protective systems of their organism are imperfect and are being formed.

Review[Sociohygienic monitoring of domestic drinking water supply in the Krasnoyarsk Territory].
Based on the results of sociohygienic monitoring, the authors give an integrated hygienic assessment of chemical and microbial contamination of water sources, drinking water, the sanitary state of water pipes, and risks for diseases in the Krasnoyarsk Territory. The changes occurring in 2001-2005 in the parameters of domestic and drinking water supply have been ascertained to be transient processes. Associations and quantitative dependences have been established between the content of barium, the microbial contamination of drinking water and the rates of a number of communicable and non-communicable diseases. Hygienic criteria and indicators for substantiating varying preventing measure programs are proposed.

Review[Environmental contamination with permanent organic pollutants and human health].
The hottest points of contamination of the environment with permanent organic pollutants, including dioxins and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB) have been identified in Russia. These are located in different regions of the country where DDT, PCB, and other chlorine-containing compounds have been earlier manufactured. ⋯ The world's highest content of dioxins in breast milk and blood is noted in the dwellers of Chapayevsk and Ufa. In these towns, there are changes in the population's health, which are typical of the action of permanent organic pollutants.
