Review[Sociohygienic monitoring of domestic drinking water supply in the Krasnoyarsk Territory].
Based on the results of sociohygienic monitoring, the authors give an integrated hygienic assessment of chemical and microbial contamination of water sources, drinking water, the sanitary state of water pipes, and risks for diseases in the Krasnoyarsk Territory. The changes occurring in 2001-2005 in the parameters of domestic and drinking water supply have been ascertained to be transient processes. Associations and quantitative dependences have been established between the content of barium, the microbial contamination of drinking water and the rates of a number of communicable and non-communicable diseases. Hygienic criteria and indicators for substantiating varying preventing measure programs are proposed.

Review[Environmental contamination with permanent organic pollutants and human health].
The hottest points of contamination of the environment with permanent organic pollutants, including dioxins and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB) have been identified in Russia. These are located in different regions of the country where DDT, PCB, and other chlorine-containing compounds have been earlier manufactured. ⋯ The world's highest content of dioxins in breast milk and blood is noted in the dwellers of Chapayevsk and Ufa. In these towns, there are changes in the population's health, which are typical of the action of permanent organic pollutants.

[Sanitary and microbiological characteristics of surface waters of Vladivostok beaches].
The present-day sanitary state of most sea beaches within the precincts of Vladivostok is mainly determined by the fact that pollutants along with household and industrial sewerage flows are carried away into the beaches without proper treatment. A multitude of the pathogenic and opportunistic flora with fecal sewerage flows enters the coastal zone. In summer holiday months (July and August), beach-front areas of the city are polluted with organic substances, i.e. they are characterized as polysaprobic, which creates conditions for the multiplication of pathogenic microorganisms. In terms of sanitary and microbiological indices, the surface waters in the city's recreational zones are characterized by persistent fecal pollution that greatly exceeds the sanitary standards, abundant enterobacteria, including epidemiologically potentially dangerous species.

Review[Environmental and medical consequences of mineral oil pollution of the geological medium].
The Khanty-Mansi Autonomous District (KMAD) is situated in the central part of Western Siberia and referred as to the discomfortably extreme areas equated to the Far North. The district occupies a prominent place in Russia's economy in oil and gas production and energy generation. More than 30 years' development of hydrocarbon deposits in the district has done great damage to the environment and nature. ⋯ The self-recovery and self-purification of landscapes occur very slowly in the North. The studies have established that steady raising of the production of oil and petroleum products in the KMAD results in a steady morbidity increase in all population groups. It is necessary to take timely preventive measures and better informed managerial decisions at the local and regional levels to keep unique north nature and the population's health in the North upon increasing man's exposure.
