Prevalence and distribution of thoracic and lumbar compressive lesions in cervical spondylotic myelopathy.
Retrospective cross-sectional study. ⋯ Surveying compressive lesions and considering the thoracic and lumbar level in cervical spondylotic myelopathy in DCS patients are important for preventing unexpected neurological deterioration and predicting accurate neurological condition after cervical surgery.

Neuropathic pain in elderly patients with chronic low back painand effects of pregabalin: a preliminary study.
Preliminary study. ⋯ Neuropathic pain was slightly less frequently associated with chronic LBP in the elderly. Pregabalin was effective in reducing pain in patients with chronic LBP accompanied with neuropathic pain. Lumbar spinal stenosis and lower limb symptoms were observed in patients with neuropathic pain. We recommend the use of pregabalin for patients after evaluating a screening score, clinical symptoms and magnetic resonance imaging studies.

Hypoglossal nerve palsy as a complication of an anterior approach for cervical spine surgery.
A recurrent laryngeal nerve injury is known as a complication referring to an anterior cervical spine surgery. However, hypoglossal nerve injury is not well known yet. Herein we report a rare case of a 39-years-old male with a hypoglossal nerve injury after C3/4 osteophyte resection with Smith-Robinson approach. ⋯ During the operative approach to the upper cervical spine we had to retract the internal carotid artery and the soft tissue to reach the vertebrae. This retract was the cause of the hypoglossal nerve injury. A gently traction and intermittent release is important to avoid a hypoglossal nerve damage.

Open and minimally invasive transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion: comparison of intermediate results and complications.
Prospective study. ⋯ MI-TLIF and open TLIF had comparable long-term benefits. Due to technical constraints, patients should be advised on the longer operative time and potential undersizing of cages at the L5S1 level.

The efficacy of intramuscular calcitonin injection in the management of lumbar spinal stenosis.
A prospective, cross-sectional, non-randomized study. ⋯ It seems that an intramuscular injection of low dose of calcitonin may have some beneficial effects on the pain due to LSS, especially in patients who suffer from severe or very severe low back pain.
