Observational StudyClinical and Hospital Factors Affecting Treatment with Primary Prevention Implantable Cardioverter-Defibrillators in Ischemic Cardiomyopathy Patients.
Implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICD) are the standard of care for primary prevention (PP) in patients with ischemic cardiomyopathy (ICM). However, PP ICD implantation is underused in Asian countries. This study investigated ICD implantation rates and factors associated with appropriate PP ICD implants for ICM. ⋯ PP ICD implantation for ICM patients is underused in Korea. Hospital factors were important for improving PP ICD implantation rate, suggesting that new screening and referral systems for ICM patients would improve the PP ICD implantation rate (Clinical trial registration No. NCT03590925).

Temporal Volume Change of Cavernous Sinus Cavernous Hemangiomas after Gamma Knife Surgery.
Cavernous hemangiomas occur very rarely in the cavernous sinus. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of Gamma Knife surgery (GKS) on cavernous sinus cavernous hemangioma (CSCH) and to analyze the temporal volume change. We retrospectively reviewed the clinical data of 26 CSCH patients who were treated with GKS between 2001 and 2017. ⋯ No treatment-related complication was observed during the follow-up period. GKS could be an effective and safe therapeutic strategy for CSCH. GKS induced very rapid volume reduction compared to other benign brain tumors.

Squamous Cell Carcinoma and Lymphoma of the Oropharynx: Differentiation Using a Radiomics Approach.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the diagnostic performance of magnetic resonance (MR) radiomics-based machine learning algorithms in differentiating squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) from lymphoma in the oropharynx. MR images from 87 patients with oropharyngeal SCC (n=68) and lymphoma (n=19) were reviewed retrospectively. Tumors were semi-automatically segmented on contrast-enhanced T1-weighted images registered to T2-weighted images, and radiomic features (n=202) were extracted from contrast-enhanced T1- and T2-weighted images. ⋯ The mean area under the ROC curve (AUC) of the radiomics classifier was 0.750 [95% confidence interval (CI), 0.613-0.887], with a sensitivity of 84.2%, specificity of 60.3%, and an accuracy of 65.5%. Two human readers yielded AUCs of 0.613 (95% CI, 0.467-0.759) and 0.663 (95% CI, 0.531-0.795), respectively. The radiomics-based machine learning model can be useful for differentiating SCC from lymphoma of the oropharynx.

Clinical Implications of Thrombocytopenia at Cardiogenic Shock Presentation: Data from a Multicenter Registry.
Thrombocytopenia (platelet count <150×10³/μL) is associated with poor outcomes in various critical illness settings. However, the prognostic value of platelet count in patients with cardiogenic shock (CS) remains unclear. ⋯ Thrombocytopenia at CS presentation was associated with worse clinical findings, higher frequencies of complications, and longer stay at the intensive care unit. Also, thrombocytopenia was independently associated with increased 30-day mortality. (Clinical trial registration No. NCT02985008).
