Multicenter Study Clinical TrialCurrent Anticoagulant Usage Patterns and Determinants in Korean Patients with Nonvalvular Atrial Fibrillation.
Stroke prevention in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) is influenced by many factors. Using a contemporary registry, we evaluated variables associated with the use of warfarin or direct oral anticoagulants (OACs). ⋯ Renal disease and history of valvular heart disease were associated with warfarin use, while cancer and smoking status were associated with direct OAC use in high stroke risk patients. The combination of antiplatelet agents with OAC was prescribed in 73.6% of patients without definite indications recommended by guidelines.

Diagnostic Accuracy of a Novel On-site Virtual Fractional Flow Reserve Parallel Computing System.
To evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of a novel on-site virtual fractional flow reserve (vFFR) derived from coronary computed tomography angiography (CTA). ⋯ Our novel, fully automated, on-site vFFR technology showed excellent diagnostic performance for the detection of lesion-specific ischemia.

Case ReportsArthrodesis Using Bilateral Dual Iliac Screws with Autologous Iliac Bone Transfer for the Treatment of Pyogenic Sacroiliitis.
Pyogenic sacroiliitis is a relatively rare condition that often leads to surgical treatment, including debridement and arthrodesis. Here we introduce a new surgical technique using bilateral dual iliac screws to secure early ambulation and maximal fusion success rate for the treatment of pyogenic sacroiliitis. ⋯ This technique improved uncontrolled pyogenic sacroiliitis with immediate stability that enabled ambulation and secured firm fixation for extensive evacuation of infected debris and subsequent autograft bone arthrodesis. In conclusion, we recommend bilateral dual iliac screw fixation for the treatment of pyogenic sacroiliitis, as this technique can improve uncontrolled pyogenic sacroiliitis with immediate stability.

Prediction Model for Massive Transfusion in Placenta Previa during Cesarean Section.
Recently, obstetric massive transfusion protocols have shifted toward early intervention. This study aimed to develop a prediction model for transfusion of ≥5 units of packed red blood cells (PRBCs) during cesarean section in women with placenta previa. ⋯ We constructed a scoring model for predicting massive transfusion during cesarean section in women with placenta previa. This model may help in determining the need to prepare an appropriate amount of blood products and the optimal timing of blood transfusion.

Feasibility and Applicability of Wireless Handheld Ultrasound Measurement of Carotid Intima-Media Thickness in Patients with Cardiac Symptoms.
Routine screening for carotid intima-media thickness (CIMT) and cardiovascular (CV) disease in asymptomatic patients has been criticized for the high costs and large number of patients required for detecting one patient with coronary artery disease (CAD). In order to overcome the low cost-effectiveness thereof, we investigated the feasibility of an economic wireless handheld ultrasound (WHUS) device for CIMT measurement in symptomatic patients. ⋯ max-CIMT measured by a WHUS device showed excellent agreement and repeatability, compared with standard ultrasound. Combined max-CIMT and plaque information added predictive power to the traditional clinical CV risk factors in detecting high-risk CAD patients.
