Comparative StudyTransmesocolic approach for left side laparoscopic pyeloplasty: comparison with laterocolic approach in the initial learning period.
To evaluate the outcome of transmesocolic (TMC) laparoscopic pyeloplasty compared with conventional laterocolic procedure for surgeons with limited experience. ⋯ Direct exposure of the ureteropelvic junction via the mesocolon saves time during the colon mobilization procedure. The approach is safe and feasible even for surgeons with limited experience, and has success rates similar to those of the conventional laterocolic approach.

Case ReportsTwo cases of mushroom poisoning by Podostroma cornu-damae.
Podostroma cornu-damae is a rare fungus that houses a fatal toxin in its fruit body. In this case report, two patients collected and boiled the wild fungus in water, which they drank for one month. ⋯ We found a piece of Podostroma cornu-damae in the remaining clusters of mushrooms. Mushroom poisoning by Podostroma cornu-damae has never been previously reported in Korea.

Case ReportsThoracic endovascular aortic repair with the chimney technique for blunt traumatic pseudoaneurysm of the aortic arch in a no-option patient.
A 42-year-old man was involved in a motor vehicle collision. Imaging studies revealed the presence of a post-traumatic aortic pseudo-aneurysm (about 34 × 26 cm) arising from the descending thoracic aorta at the level of the left subclavian artery (LSA), prone to rupture. ⋯ In this case, LSA needed to be covered in order to extend the proximal landing zone. Eventually, modified TEVAR was successfully performed by means of the chimney technique to preserve flow to the LSA and to prevent flow into the pseudoaneurysmal sac.

Clinical implications and risk factors of acute pancreatitis after cardiac valve surgery.
Acute pancreatitis is one of the potentially lethal complications that occurs after cardiac surgery. We tried to identify risk factors for and the prognosis of acute pancreatitis after cardiac valve surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass. ⋯ We found that acute pancreatitis after cardiac valve surgery requires longer hospitalization and increases the in-hospital mortality rate. Clinicians should be aware that patients could develop pancreatitis after cardiac valve surgery, especially in patients with hypertension and chronic kidney disease treated with norepinephrine.

Prevalence and risk factors of esophageal candidiasis in healthy individuals: a single center experience in Korea.
Esophageal candidiasis (EC) is the most frequent opportunistic fungal infection in immunocompromised host. However, we have found EC in healthy individuals through esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD). The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence and risk factors for EC in healthy individuals. ⋯ The prevalence of EC was 0.32% (281/88125) in Korea. Use of antibiotics, corticosteroids and herb as well as heavy drinking were significant risk factors for EC in healthy individuals.
