Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is an ongoing global pandemic caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). Type I and III interferon (IFN) responses act as the first line of defense against viral infection and are activated by the recognition of viruses by infected cells and innate immune cells. Dysregulation of host IFN responses has been known to be associated with severe disease progression in COVID-19 patients. ⋯ In the absence of a highly efficacious antiviral drug, clinical studies have evaluated recombinant type I and III IFNs, as they have been successfully used for the treatment of infections caused by two other epidemic coronaviruses, SARS-CoV-1 and Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS)-CoV. In this review, we describe the strategies by which SARS-CoV-2 evades IFN responses and the dysregulation of host IFN responses in COVID-19 patients. In addition, we discuss the therapeutic potential of type I and III IFNs in COVID-19.

Multicenter Study Observational StudyValsartan Dosage on Ventriculo-Vascular Coupling Index Dose-Dependency in Heart Failure Patients.
Heart failure (HF) poses significant morbidity and mortality. Recently, the ventriculo-vascular coupling index (VVI) was introduced as an independent prognostic factor reflective of the overall cardiovascular performance index in HF. We aimed to determine the effectiveness of force-titration of valsartan on VVI values in HF patients. ⋯ CDs of valsartan for 6 months showed better improvement in VVI, as well as LVMI, in patients with HFrEF, compared with NCDs.

Multicenter StudyComparison of the 2017 EULAR/ACR Criteria with Clinicoserologic Criteria for the Classification of Idiopathic Inflammatory Myopathies in Korean Patients.
To investigate correlations between myositis-specific autoantibodies (MSA) or myositis-associated antibodies (MAA) and clinical features, thereby demonstrating the utility of clinicoserologic classification in idiopathic inflammatory myopathies (IIM) patients. ⋯ The clinicoserologic criteria based on MSA/MAA positivity could reflect more precise clinical features of IIM. Establishment of a laboratory system routinely available to screen for MSA/MAA status will be beneficial to provide precise diagnosis and proper management of IIM patients.

Predictive Role of Lung Injury Prediction Score in the Development of Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome in Korea.
Early recognition and therapeutic intervention are important in patients at high risk of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). The lung injury prediction score (LIPS) has been used to predict ARDS development; however, it was developed based on the previous definition of ARDS. We investigated the predictive role of LIPS in ARDS development according to its Berlin definition in the Korean population. ⋯ LIPS predicted the development of ARDS as diagnosed by the Berlin definition in the Korean population. LIPS provides useful information for managing patients with ARDS.

Accuracy of 2D CT-Based Measurements of Rotational Alignment of the Femoral Component for Total Knee Arthroplasty.
We aimed to investigate the accuracy of two-dimensional computed tomography (2D-CT)-based methods for measuring rotational alignment of the femoral component during total knee arthroplasty in comparison to reference values for three-dimensional (3D) reconstruction. ⋯ Mean errors in PCA and CTA values measured using three different methods on 2D-CT were not significantly different. However, PCA and CTA values measured on 2D-CT were approximately 1° smaller than their 3D values. Thus, we suggest that adding 1° to the mean PCA and CTA values obtained from a single plane of 2D-CT would provide values similar to those obtained from 3D reconstruction.
