We report an electrically controlled optofluidic zoom system which can achieve a large continuous zoom change and high-resolution image. The zoom system consists of an optofluidic zoom objective and a switchable light path which are controlled by two liquid optical shutters. The proposed zoom system can achieve a large tunable focal length range from 36mm to 92mm. ⋯ Due to large zoom range, the proposed imaging system incorporates both camera configuration and telescope configuration into one system. In addition, the whole system is electrically controlled by three electrowetting liquid lenses and two liquid optical shutters, therefore, the proposed system is very compact and free of mechanical moving parts. The proposed zoom system has potential to take place of conventional zoom systems.

The editors introduce the focus issue on "Advanced Solid-State Lasers (ASSL) 2015", which is based on the topics presented at a congress of the same name held in Berlin, Germany, from October 4 to October 9, 2015. This focus issue, jointly prepared by Optics Express and Optical Materials Express, includes 23 contributed papers (17 for Optics Express and 6 for Optical Materials Express) selected from the voluntary submissions from attendees who presented at the congress and have extended their work into complete research articles. We hope this focus issue offers a good snapshot of a variety of topical discussions held at the congress and will contribute to the further expansion of the associated research areas.

In the original paper, the line width of the resolution target (which corresponds to half-pitch resolution) was used to characterize the resolution of our microscope system. However, we think that full-pitch resolution offers a better definition of the imaging system's resolution limit. In this erratum, we list specific sections from the manuscript that used half-pitch resolution and correct them accordingly.

We propose a plasmonic system consisting of nano-disks (NDs) with graded diameters for the realization of nano-optical conveyor belt. The system contains a couple of NDs with individual elements coded with different resonant wavelengths. ⋯ The feasibility of such function is verified based on the three-dimensional finite-difference time-domain technique and the Maxwell stress tensor method. Our design may provide an alternative way to construct nano-optical conveyor belt with which target molecules can be delivered between trapping sites, thus enabling many on-chip optofluidic applications.
