Review[Acute pulmonary edema and pregnancy: a descriptive study of 15 cases and review of the literature].
To describe the incidence and the etiologies of acute pulmonary edema (APE) and the diagnostic procedure used during pregnancy and immediate post-partum. ⋯ The APE is a rare event during pregnancy and the post-partum period and its main etiology is preeclampsia. Some other etiologies are avoidable like the use of beta-agonists by intravenous route. The diagnosis is sometimes difficult, but the realization of a chest X-ray, a simple and inexpensive test, is enough to confirm it.

[Use of injectable urapidil in pregnancy-induced hypertension and preeclampsia].
To evaluate the efficacy and tolerance of injectable urapidil (Eupressyl(®)) for the treatment of severe pregnancy-associated arterial hypertension. ⋯ Injectable urapidil seems to be an antihypertensive agent that is easy to use and effective in 80% of cases and that has very few secondary effects on the mother or the foetus. Further comparative studies are required to determine the potential of this drug for use in the management of pregnancy-associated hypertension.

[Interest of lactate micro-dosage in scalp and umbilical cord in cases of abnormal fetal heart rate during labor. Prospective study on 162 patients].
To compare the interest of lactate microanalysis with pH measurement (Gold Standard procedure) in cord blood and fetal scalp blood samples for the assessment of abnormal fetal heart rate (FHR) during labour. ⋯ The values of lactate in cord blood and fetal scalp blood samples were comparable to pH values (Gold standard procedure). This method is easy to perform and is an attractive alternative to pH for monitoring fetal asphyxia. It is our opinion that the combination of the two methods is of interest.

Comparative Study[Practices for management of grave postpartum haemorrhage after vaginal delivery: a population-based study in 106 French maternity units].
Describe management of severe postpartum haemorrhages (PPH) and its compliance with national guidelines and identify determinants of non-optimal care. ⋯ Management practices for severe PPH can be improved, to an extent that varies by component of care and type of hospital. A qualitative approach should help to identify the individual and organizational factors explaining why guidelines are not fully applied.

Review[Role of embolization in the management of uterine fibroids].
Uterine artery embolization using non spherical PVA particles or calibrated trisacryl microspheres above 500 μm is effective to treat menorrhagia, bulk-related symptoms and pelvic pain in more than 90% of cases in the short-term. In the long-term, embolization is effective in 75% of cases at 5-7 years. At 6 months, uterine volume reduction and dominant fibroid volume reduction varies between 30-60% and 50-80% respectively. ⋯ Spontaneous abortion is more frequent after embolization than after myomectomy. There is no difference between embolization and myomectomy for the rates of pre-term delivery, cesarean section, post-partum hemorrhage, pre-eclampsia or intra-uterine growth retardation. Embolization performed before myomectomy (preoperative or combined procedures) can be discussed for an individual patient but there is not enough data to support its routine use.
