To identify and correlate various factors affecting the outcome of children with scorpion sting envenomation treated with prazosin in a tertiary care hospital. ⋯ Symptoms of acidosis, tachypnea, myocarditis, APE, encephalopathy after 6 h of sting are major contributing factors affecting outcome in children with scorpion sting envenomation.

Anemia is a global problem of immense public health significance. Iron deficiency anemia is the most common nutritional disorder seen all over the world, more in the developing countries, particularly, affecting young children of 6-24 months of age, adolescents, women of reproductive age group and pregnant/ lactating women. ⋯ Supplemenldelim 1, of medicinal iron is key to success which can be achieved by daily or intermittent (biweekly/weekly) administration of oral iron to the target group. Reduction of nutritional anemia should receive top priority through proper planning by using better utilization of existing health infrastructure.

Diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), a life-threatening complication of diabetes mellitus (DM), occurs more commonly in children with type 1 DM than type 2 DM. Hyperglycemia, metabolic acidosis, ketonemia, dehydration and various electrolyte abnormalities result from a relative or absolute deficiency of insulin with or without an excess of counter-regulatory hormones. ⋯ Factors precipitating the episode of DKA should be identified and rectified. Following resolution of ketoacidosis, intravenous insulin is transitioned to subcutaneous route, titrating dose to achieve normoglycemia.

To review aetiological agents of neonatal sepsis and their antibiotic resistance pattern over the past 3 years, at a 20 bedded Level III neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) in eastern India. ⋯ The present study is the first in recent years from eastern India on aetiology and antimicrobial resistance in neonatal sepsis. Two areas of concern were the emergence of non fermenting Gram negative bacilli as causative organisms and the alarming degree of antibiotic resistance observed for commonly used antibiotics.
