After being lost for 16 hr, a 7-yr-old boy was admitted to the emergency Department (ED) in a severe hypothermic condition of 23.3 degrees C with cardiac arrest. Active rewarming was conducted with cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). ⋯ Fever developed 14 hr after admission and continued for 9 days due to frostbite wound of both feet. This case report demonstrates successful resuscitation in severe hypothermic cardiac arrest with complete neurologic recovery in a 7-yr-old boy.

This study was undertaken to analyze the outcome of children with DKA treated with a modified protocol at a tertiary level teaching hospital PICU in Pune, Maharashatra. ⋯ We have shown that when DKA is managed in a PICU setting using modified protocol, the outcome is good and complications such as brain edema can be prevented.

Vinyl bags prevent hypothermia at birth in preterm infants.
To compare the effect of standard care vs. the use of vinyl bags (Vi-Drape (R) isolation bag) on admission temperature in extremely premature infants < or = 28 weeks gestational age at birth. ⋯ Vinyl bags prevent heat loss and are a simple and effective intervention in preventing hypothermia in the delivery room and early acidosis in premature infants.

Pseudoaneurysms of the extracranial Internal Carotid Artery (ICA) are rare. Here it is reported a case of posttraumatic extracranial ICA pseudoaneurysm in a three-year-old boy. ⋯ Later on confirmed by Doppler and MRA. The imaging features are described with a brief review of literature.

Intrathecal tetanus immunoglobulins in the management of tetanus.
To study the clinical profile, treatment and outcome of tetanus in children treated with intrathecal tetanus immunoglobulin. (TIG) METHODS: Retrospective analysis of hospital records of tetaus cases admitted to the pediatric ICU during the five year period between 1999 to 2004 was done. ⋯ Intrathecal TIG is effective in the treatment of mild and moderate tetanus. Randomized controlled clinical trials are needed to evaluate the efficacy of intrathecal TIG in the management of severe tetanus.
