This article reviews the presentation, diagnosis, evaluation, and treatment of the various forms of mesenteric ischemia, including acute and chronic ischemia. In addition, nonocclusive mesenteric ischemia and median arcuate ligament compressive syndrome are covered. ⋯ Special attention is given to avoiding typical pitfalls in the diagnostic and treatment pathways. Operative techniques are also briefly discussed, including an evidence-based review of newer endovascular techniques.

Early diagnosis and intervention are paramount for improving the likelihood of a favorable outcome for traumatic vascular injuries. As technology has rapidly diversified, the diagnostic and therapeutic approaches available for vascular injuries have evolved. Mortality and morbidity from vascular injury have declined over the last decade. The use of vascular shunts and tourniquets has become standard of care in military medicine.

This study aims to update the 1991 Atlanta Classification of acute pancreatitis, to standardize the reporting of and terminology of the disease and its complications. Important features of this classification have incorporated new insights into the disease learned over the last 20 years, including the recognition that acute pancreatitis and its complications involve a dynamic process involving two phases, early and late. The accurate and consistent description of acute pancreatitis will help to improve the stratification and reporting of new methods of care of acute pancreatitis across different practices, geographic areas, and countries.

ReviewScreening, imaging, and image-guided biopsy techniques for breast cancer.
Mammography remains the primary modality for breast cancer diagnosis. Other imaging studies, most commonly ultrasonography and magnetic resonance imaging, are also used to characterize breast lesions, stage breast cancer, and aid in surgical planning. Although mammography is the only screening examination demonstrated to decrease breast cancer mortality in the general population, other imaging studies have been shown to be beneficial for screening high-risk patients. In the future, new technologies may also improve the sensitivity and specificity of breast cancer screening and detection.
