[Discussion on implications and research ideas of toxic theory in natural characteristics of Chinese herbal medicine].
The meaning of "poisonous" in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is different from that of modern medicine. Narrow meaning of "poisonous" in TCM refers to harmful reaction to human body. ⋯ To fully reveal the scientific content of Chinese herbal toxic theory, we should carry out our research on the relationship between Chinese herbal toxicity and body state under the guidance of TCM theory. Moreover, comprehensive study on toxic information is also necessary for clarifying the natural characteristics of Chinese herbal medicine.

Review[Some key issues about scientific research on traditional Chinese medicine].
Since the Tenth Five-Year Plan in China, the science and technology of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has gained unprecedented high attention, and at the same time, the people who have been engaging in the TCM research are bearing more and more missions and responsibilities. In order to get more significant breakthroughs and scientific achievements with great innovation, great value and great influence in the near future, the radical target and strategy for TCM research should be made out as follows: sifting out the lees, laying aside the disputes, tamping the identical opinions, and innovating to apply. In other words, the principle that "to do what can be done, not to do what can not be done; to do what should be done, not to do what should not be done, and to pay more attention to standardization than to innovation" should be recognized unequivocally. The six issues such as the evaluation and improvement of TCM efficacy, the safety evaluation and reasonable usage of TCM, the innovation and development of TCM quality evaluation and control technology, the sustainable utilization and protection of TCM resources, the elucidation and modernization of TCM basic theory, etc. should be considered as the prior and key aspects of TCM research in the following 20 years in China.

The objective of this paper is to develop a fast analysis method to determine fingerprints of Radix Glycyrrhizae from different areas of China for identification and quality control. The experiments were carried out under following conditions: Agilent Eclipse Plus C18 (4.6 mm x 50 mm, 1.8 microm) column, acetonitrile and 0. 05% phosphoric acid solution as the mobile phases with gradient elution, flow rate 1.0 mL x min(-1), analysis time 11 min. The run time of the method was obviously decreased from 36 minutes to 11 minutes compared with routine HPLC method. ⋯ The results showed that all samples were classified into 2 groups, 59 Glycyrrhiza uralensis as well as 11 G. inflata. Three compounds, liquiritin apioside, liquiritin and glycyrrhiza acid should be considered as effective references for quality control of Radix Glycyrrhizae. This method can be used widely for identification and quality control of Radix Glycyrrhizae.

Randomized Controlled Trial[Clinical study on sodium ferulate for intracerebral hemorrhage in early stage].
To evaluate the clinical application value of sodium ferulate for intracerebral hemorrhage in early stage. ⋯ With the basic medical therapy, applying sodium ferulate can effectually improve the resolution of the haematoma, reduce the peripheral edema, and enhance the recovery of neural function for the patients with intracerebral hemorrhage in early stag. The therapeutic effectiveness of adding sodium ferulate in patients with intracerebral hemorrhage in early stage is better than that of the basic medical therapy in most of the fields as the above. No evident effect on secondary hemorrhage, or harmful impact on heart, liver and kidney function was found.

[HPLC determination of chemical constituents produced in Radix Polygoni Multiflori after processing].
To analysis the changes of two chemical constituents, namely 2, 3-dihydro-3, 5- dihydroxy-6-methyl-4H-pyran-4-one (DDMP) and 5-hydryoxymethyl-furfural (5-HMF) produced in Radix Polygoni Multiflori after processing, with processing time, and to determine the contents of 5-HMF in samples of Radix Polygoni Multiflori and Radix Polygoni Multiflori preparata. ⋯ The chemical components in Radix Polygoni Multiflori were changed during the processing procedures. Therefore, the processing of Radix Polygoni Multiflori should be controlled and standardized.
