We present the case of co-existing pericarditis, cardiac tamponade and pulmonary embolism in a 60-year-old man treated with COPD. Cardiac tamponade as well as pulmonary embolism constitute a direct danger to life and the recovery depends on fast and proper treatment. Cardiac tamponade which co-exists with COPD is a pathology which is especially difficult to be diagnosed due to similar clinical symptoms. The necessity of pericardiocentesis in acute cardiac tamponade may limit the treatment of the coexisting pulmonary embolism.

Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) is a subgroup of unexpected infant deaths that occur during the postneonatal period with relatively consistent clinical, epidemiological, and pathological features. SIDS remains the major cause of death in infants aged between 1 week and 1 year in western countries. ⋯ Avoidable risk factors such as those associated with inappropriate infants' sleeping position, type of bedding used and sleeping arrangements strongly suggest a basis for further substantial reductions in SIDS incidence rates. The current guidelines for reducing the risk of SIDS are presented.

Spleen is a rare extra-pulmonary tuberculosis manifestation. The spleen tuberculosis is caused by the blood derivative dissemination of mycobacteria. The symptoms can suggest a hematological disease, but it is difficult to make a diagnosis, especially when there are no pulmonary changes. ⋯ The splenectomy revealed in a histopathologic examination productiva caseosa tuberculosis. The bone marrow trepanobiopsy revealed as well tuberculosis changes. The antimycobacteria treatment caused an improvement of the clinical state and the regression of symptoms.

The problem with prepuce retraction is caused not only by its narrowing, called phimosis, but also frequently by the inner prepuce adhesion to glans. The spontaneous prepuce retraction is received in 80% cases of boys up to the age of two, whereas in remaining cases, after the age of two it is necessary to take up the medical treatment. The purpose of the research was to estimate the effectiveness of conservative therapy using steroid ointments which was undertaken in boys referred to Outpatient Paediatric Surgery Centre with recognition of phimosis. ⋯ Conservative treatment of phimosis is highly effective and safe method which may also be an initial stage to operative treatment or to cure scarring after surgical treatment as well.

Although beneficial effects of wound infestation with maggots had been known for many centuries, it was not until dr Zacharias recognized medical importance of maggots during the American Civil War. He intentionally introduced maggots into the wound for its debridement. Baer successfully used maggots in treatment of osteomyelitis in 4 children in the 1930'. ⋯ Its beneficial effect was noted in diabetic foot and in destroying malignant tissue as well. Easiness in application, safety, near no side effects and often exceptional efficiency in wound debridement makes maggots therapy the first line therapeutic tool in both hospital and out-patient surgery. Clinical experience has demonstrated that maggot therapy may reduce costs of treatment considerably by shortening hospital stay and decrease usage of antibiotics.
