To identify risk factors associated with delayed diagnosis of pancreatic injuries. ⋯ In patients with blunt abdominal trauma and altered consciousness with few clinical signs, and no or mild associated abdominal injuries, we recommend additional diagnostic studies to exclude pancreatic rupture before starting non-operative management. Exposure and evaluation of the pancreas during laparotomy for trauma is essential.

To assess the effectiveness of an educational symposium designed to improve compliance with universal barrier precautions by the use of video analysis of resuscitations. ⋯ Video analysis of resuscitations is an effective audit and educational tool that allows analysis of compliance with protocol. The education symposium was effective in altering attitudes and behaviour towards universal barrier precautions.

Preoperative high dose methylprednisolone improves patients outcome after abdominal surgery.
To assess the effect of preoperative high dose methylprednisolone on stress response and outcome. ⋯ Outcome of the patients after conventional abdominal surgery is substantially improved by preoperative high dose methylprednisolone. This effect is more pronounced in patients having major operations.
