Does restoration of binocular vision make any difference in the quality of life in adult strabismus.
To report the effect of restoration of binocular functions in adult strabismus on the health-related quality of life (HRQOL). ⋯ The restoration of binocular vision is possible in adults with a long-term history of strabismus and both AS-20 and A&SQ questionnaires are sensitive to detect additive effect of binocular vision on functional aspects of the quality of life. To increase this sensitivity, questionnaires can be modified to include items inquiring tasks that require fine stereopsis.

Oral gabapentin premedication for elderly patients undergoing intraocular surgery.
To compare effects of gabapentin premedication with diazepam in patients undergoing cataract surgery. ⋯ Hence, premedication with oral gabapentin in these elderly patients undergoing elective intraocular surgery produced intraoperative anxiolysis, decreased sedation, a modest decrease in IOPs and improved postoperative recovery.

To investigate in vivo optical coherence tomography (OCT) for imaging of periocular basal cell carcinoma (BCC). ⋯ This study indicated a strong positive correlation between the margins of periocular BCCs measured using in vivo OCT and histology, and a weak positive correlation with depth of invasion. VivoSight OCT produced high resolution images of BCC morphology. The limitations in horizontal margin measurements could potentially be overcome by design modification of the scanning probe.

To investigate the effect of a structured, supervised, cataract simulation programme on ophthalmic surgeons in their first year of training, and to evaluate the level of skill transfer. ⋯ Structured and supervised VR training can offer a significant level of skills transfer to novice ophthalmic surgeons. VR training at the earliest stage of ophthalmic surgical training may, therefore, be of benefit.
