Mandibular condylar fractures and acute atlanto-axial subluxation Part 2 A physiopathological factor for the cervical spine sprain.
The aim of this study was to analyze the physiopathology of the acute cervical injure in the event of mandibular condylar fractures. ⋯ These results allow to delineate a different physiopathological mechanism: in the event of mandibular condylar fractures, the sprain of the cervical spine seems to be caused by the acute atlanto-axial subluxation.

Case ReportsMaxillary sinusitis today: a consequence of dental and nasal disease. A case presenting with a difficult differential diagnosis.
Chronic maxillary sinusitis as an expression of infectious dental disease seemed destined to vanish. On the contrary, during the last years, the frequency of chronic maxillary sinusitis is rising again in relation to several factors, among these bacterial resistance as well as the poor dental hygiene and the limited access to odontologic care by not well-off patients play a key role. Anyway oral rehabilitative surgery (pre-implantologic and implantologic) is nowadays becoming the major cause of chronic maxillary sinusitis. The authors describe a recently observed case that, for its peculiarity, clearly exemplifies the variety of manifestations and the close relation between dental disease and anatomic nasal defects in the genesis of sinusal disease.

Review Case ReportsSubmandibular cellulitis (Ludwig's angina) associated to a complex odontoma erupted into the oral cavity. Case report and literature review.
The clinical presentation of Ludwig's angina consists in a severe expanding cellulitis causing swelling of the floor of the mouth, tongue and submandibular region, thus resulting in a possible obstruction of the airway and in a rapid progress in deep neck soft tissue infection and mediastinitis with potentially fatal consequences. Frequently, submandibular cellulitis develops from an acute infection spreading from the lower molar teeth. Mandibular fractures, traumatic laceration of the floor of the mouth, and peritonsillar abscesses are other concomitant clinical features. ⋯ The patient was affected by enlargement of submandibular space, marked face swelling causing an evident face deformity, tenderness and redness of the neck and limited movement of the neck and mouth. In the past, Ludwig's angina was frequently fatal, however aggressive surgical and medical therapy have significantly reduced the mortality rate. The reported case can be considered as important, not only because of the rarity of the odontoma eruption in the oral cavity, but mainly for the extent of the clinical manifestation of a lesion usually described in literature as asymptomatic.

Comparative StudyFive-year follow-up of temporomandibular disorders and other musculoskeletal symptoms in dental students.
The aim of this epidemiologic study was to evaluate the intensity and variation of temporomandibular disorders and other musculoskeletal symptoms in a population of dental students during the five years of Dental School. ⋯ A higher risk of developing such symptoms associated with dental work in the laboratory can be hypothesized in case of improper ergonomics.

Randomized Controlled TrialBispectral Index in the sedation with intranasal midazolam and intravenous diazepam in dental practice.
Aim of this study was to assess by clinical evaluation and by Bispectral Index (BIS) the tranquillizing properties of diazepam injected intravenously, and midazolam by intranasal route according to the body weight in dental patients. ⋯ The study shows that nasal route ensures the quick absorption of midazolam as revealed during the first 3 min from drug administration. The depressant effect of midazolam increased as a function of time, reaching the highest levels during intervention. The results suggest that midazolam is endowed with sedative effects which may compromise the state of consciousness of the patient and be incompatible with the definition of conscious sedation in dentistry.
