ABNORMALITIES during pregnancy are regarded as pathological pregnancy. Early detection of anomalies is urgent to take measures as soon as possible to prevent serious pregnancy complications. Procoagulant-anticoagulant imbalance is often the pathological basis of many pathological pregnancy conditions, leading to a hypercoagulable state. We compared the thromboelastographic parameters between pathological pregnancy and normal pregnancy patients, evaluated the value of thromboelastography in early detecting pathological pregnancy and predicting postpartum hemorrhage.

To evaluate the feasibility of the Shikani Optical Stylet (SOS)-guided intubation through a new Intubating Laryngeal Airway (ILA) in anticipated difficult airways caused by scar contracture of the face and neck. ⋯ The SOS-guided intubating method via the ILA is a feasible technique in patients with scar contracture of the face and neck. However, in patients with severe limitation of head extension, the use of SOS cannot be recommended. The SOS can be used as an alternative apparatus when the fibreoptic bronchoscope is not available.

Effect of timing of tracheotomy on clinical outcomes: an update meta-analysis including 11 trials.
To estimate the relative effect of early vs. late tracheotomy on clinical end-points in unselected intensive care unit (ICU) patients undergoing mechanical ventilation. ⋯ Early tracheotomy can reduce length of ICU stay, duration of mechanical ventilation and mortality but has no influence on hospital pneumonia when compared with late tracheotomy. Once the decision has been made about tracheotomy, clinical physicians should not hesitate to perform the procedure.
