It is most pertinent that medical students are taught the necessary skills for digital rectal examination (DRE) before they become doctors. ⋯ The students have been taught DRE and a good number of them have performed it. Few of the DRE done by the students were cross-checked by a doctor. Most of the students have problems differentiating BPH from cancer of the prostate and many of them were not very confident of their findings on DRE.

Isolated dextrogastria is a rare congenital anomaly in which the stomach is right-sided while the intestines, the organs in the chest, and the other organs in the abdomen are in normal situs. The importance of recognising the spectrum of situs anomalies is because the altered anatomy associated with these anomalies may result in misdiagnosis. ⋯ The practice of the radiographer is always placing the marker before exposing the film instead of marking the radiograph after processing, which is the key to accurate identification of situs anomalies need emphasis.

Acute renal failure (ARF) in the intensive care unit (ICU) complicates 20 to 35% of admissions worldwide. There is no information on the pattern of ARF in our ICU and factors that influence survival. ⋯ Acute renal failure presents a continuing challenge in the ICU setting with attendant of high morbidity and mortality. Dialysis significantly influences survival, hence, the service should be provided in every intensive care unit.

Epistaxis is a common otolaryngological emergency and is often due to lesions within or around the nose and systemic conditions. Controlling epistaxis presents a challenge in the underdeveloped, resource-poor centres where there are limited facilities. ⋯ Epistaxis is a common presentation of head and neck trauma. Non-surgical control of epistaxis (nasal packing) is adequate in many cases. Reducing the incidence of trauma from RTA will reduce the incidence of emergency epistaxis in our centers.

On account of religious reasons, Jehovah Witnesses do not accept blood or blood products; occasionally, they accept reinfusion of autologous blood via a cell saver during surgery. ⋯ It is possible to perform certain types of neurosurgical procedures in Jehovah's Witnesses without increasing the mortality and morbidity rate.
