Case Reports[Substernal goitre. Report of 45 cases (author's transl)].
Among 1,000 operated goiters excluding hyperthyroidism, 45 were compressives (4,5%). Epidemiologic factors were elderly patients, ancient unoperated goiters and recidivism of formerly operated goiters. 1. Prognosis is not hopeless since 60% of compressive goiters were benign. ⋯ Tracheomalacia never occured. But laryngeal edema or recurential palsy may need a few days intubation. Technical aspects in order to avoid compressive hematoma as well as sequelae are described.

[Coagulation disturbances after subtotal or total hepatectomy in the dog (author's transl)].
The authors relate 15 cases of blood coagulation disturbances among three groups of animals after 80%, 90% or total hepatectomy. Animals in group I, after 80% hepatectomy, were sacrified between the 10th and 30th postoperative days. Group II animals, with 90% hepatectomy, survived for periods ranging from 18 to 24 hours. ⋯ The coagulation disturbances which were observed following 80% hepatectomy were spontaneously compatible with the survival of the animals. Following 90% and total hepatectomy the resulting disturbances were constantly severe enough to limit survival time. Supportive procoagulant therapy associated with sequential heparin administration seems justified by the insufficient biosynthesis of clotting factors and their unavoidable consumption as a result of localized then disseminated intravascular coagulation and secondary fibrinolysis.

[Original surgical technic for the treatment of flail chest (author's transl)].
Solid internal fixation of fractures of the ribs and thorax producing a flail chest is described using a new technic which permits early mobilisation of the patient, immediate spontaneous respiration, abolition of pain, early respiratory physiotherapy, and reduces the danger of respiratory complications due to artificial ventilation, and permenent sequelae due to a secondary deformity of the thoracic cage. Our experience of the method has permitted us to determine its indications and limits.

[Treatment of open malleolar fractures. Apropos of a series of 26 cases].
The authors report 26 cases of open bimalleolar fractures and discuss the various possibilities of treatment. Immediate internal fixation is indicated for types I or II of openings, being the best prevention of sepsis. These osteosynthesis should be the same as for closed fractures: screwing with or without associated AO plate and repair of peroneotibial ligaments.
