The value of mouth protectors in the prevention of facial and dental injuries was investigated in seven different sports. 5300 sportsmen filled in a written questionnaire. The replies provided information on the number of facial and dental injuries that occur annually in the Netherlands. The use of mouth protectors was also recorded.

The results of a trial with Propofol for conscious sedation in mentally and/or physically handicapped and extremely anxious dental patients is presented. A continuous intravenous infusion of Propofol was chosen as a method of administration with slow and careful titration until the appropriate level of sedation was reached. ⋯ The depth of sedation is easily and rapidly controlled by the rate of the infusion. The recovery was rapid, the patients were clear headed and devoid of any early and late postoperative sequelae.

[Disorders of the temporomandibular joint. 2. Diagnosis and strategies for management].
Management of temporomandibular disorders should be based on a thorough clinical and radiographic examination, leading to a specific diagnosis. Contributing factors should be detected and the aim of the treatment should be clear. ⋯ Depending on the stage of osteoarthrosis and internal derangement, several treatment modalities may be considered. This article provides practical guidelines for determining the strategy for management of temporomandibular joint osteoarthrosis and internal derangement.
