Many people enjoy sports, it is healthy and relaxing. There is, however, an inherent risk of sustaining injuries and fractures of the maxillofacial skeleton. Adequate diagnostics and treatment are mandatory to minimize the possible long-term consequences of injuries. ⋯ This paper discusses the assessment and treatment of fractures of the mandible, the zygoma, the mid-face, the orbital bones, the nose, and the frontal sinus. The assessment must followed by treatment as soon as possible. Treatment options of orofacial fractures are conservative treatment by exercising and/or oral splints and surgical reposition, either or not using osteosynthetic materials.

Routine examination, including a biopsy was not conclusive and could not entirely rule out a malignancy. ⋯ The patient was treated with benzathine benzylpenicillin and his complaints disappeared. Sarcoidosis is a chronic generalized benign granulomatous disorder of perhaps an autoimmune character which can afflict many organs. The insidious form prevails, a (sub)acute onset covers about one third of cases. In most patients the lungs are involved; tissue damage by granulomas and inflammatory cells causes a reduction of respiratory capacity, with dyspnoea as a result. ⋯ In most cases prednisone is the drug of first choice. It is tantalizing to have to decide whether to treat or not. The decision is based on the severity of the process in vital organs.

Review[Interaction between dentists, general practitioner and medical specialist].
Dentists and oral hygienists experience nowadays more frequently the need for special (medical) care for their patients. After consulting the family doctor or medical specialist the dental treatment must often be modified to fit the patient's general condition. The dental professional asks in these circumstances for expertise; in the field of oral medicine the dentist is the expert for the family doctor or medical specialist.
