[Passive exposure in detection of low blood and urine cannabinoid concentrations].
Whenever small amounts of drugs are present in blood or urine samples, especially of substances that are preferentially smoked such as cannabinoids, the discrimination between active and passive inhalation may cause severe problems. The statement of a passive exposure by marijuana smoke has been scrutinized reviewing the literature. The pharmacokinetics of smoked marijuana as well as experimental data on cannabinoid concentrations in plasma and urine samples following passive exposure are summarized. As a conclusion it seems urgent to enlarge the existing data base.

Case Reports[Suicide with a walking cane gun: weapon, injury picture and psychopathology].
In Germany firearms camouflaged as items of daily use are forbidden. While reports on ball-point pen-guns have repeatedly been published in literature, the use of a walking-stick gun is a rarity. ⋯ Under forensic and criminological aspects the significance of a walking-stick gun is comparable to that of ball-point pen-guns. Both weapons can be carried and used inconspicuously, but from a walking-stick gun also ammunition of larger calibres with a higher potential of injury can be fired.

Case Reports[Alcohol stove as a source of CO poisoning in a camper].
Although the number of deaths from fatal CO poisoning has strongly declined since the change from coal gas to natural gas, accidental and suicidal carbon monoxide intoxications still have to be expected. In motor vehicles the exhaust gases from the engine and a stationary heating are the major sources of intoxication. In closed campers and caravans the operation of gas and spirit cooking stoves etc. may also lead to an accumulation of carbon monoxide due to incomplete combustion.

[Forensic medicine experiences with methadone substitution in the Geneva canton].
Methadone treatment for heroin addiction has followed three distinct periods in Geneva, Switzerland. The first period (1970-1979) corresponds to the beginning of the heroin addiction epidemic. Treatment was restricted to detoxification and did not succeed in reducing fatal overdoses. ⋯ This period has brought a decrease of illegal heroin consumption and criminality but not of fatal overdoses. Finally, during the third period (since 1990), legislation was changed to allow easier access to methadone maintenance program. As a consequence there was a significant drop in lethal heroin overdoses and in deaths attributed to HIV.

Case Reports[Postmortem dog bites after sexually motivated homicide with multiple stab wounds--differential diagnostic aspects].
The body of a 20-year-old woman that had undergone significant putrefaction was found lying on the bed of her apartment in a supine position. The legs were straddled and apart from a T-shirt, she was naked. The inner side of the right thigh showed a circumscribed 20 cm x 40 cm defect exposing the underlying muscles. ⋯ Autopsy revealed 13 vital stab wounds in the neck and aspiration of blood in the lungs as well as signs of manual strangulation. The observed coincidence of injuries due to postmortem animal depredation and stab wounds, although in different localization, can be regarded as a rare entity in the light of the literature. The morphological appearance of traumatic injuries due to other causes can be modified by the simultaneous presence of postmortem injuries caused by animals and difficulties can arise concerning the differential diagnosis especially under poor conditions (e.g. advanced putrefaction) at the death scene.
