Multicenter Study Observational Study
Tumour necrosis factor inhibitor survival and predictors of response in axial spondyloarthritis-findings from a United Kingdom cohort.
To analyse long-term survival and efficacy of TNFi, reasons for switching or discontinuing, baseline predictors of response and remission in axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA) patients in a UK cohort. ⋯ We have observed good TNFi survival rates in axSpA patients treated in a real-life setting. This is best for first TNFi and not influenced by drug choice.

Excessive bone formation is an important hallmark of AS. Recently it has been demonstrated that axial bony lesions in AS patients can be visualized using 18F-fluoride PET-CT. The aim of this study was to assess whether 18F-fluoride uptake in clinically active AS patients is related to focal bone formation in spine biopsies and is sensitive to change during anti-TNF treatment. ⋯ 18F-fluoride PET-CT identified bone formation, confirmed by histology, in the spine and SI joints of AS patients and demonstrated alterations in bone formation during anti-TNF treatment.

Among the challenges in health research is translating interventions from controlled experimental settings to clinical and community settings where chronic disease is managed daily. Pragmatic trials offer a method for testing interventions in real-world settings but are seldom used in OA research. The aim of this study was to evaluate the literature on pragmatic trials in OA research up to August 2016 in order to identify strengths and weaknesses in the design and reporting of these trials. ⋯ Our results suggest a lack of highly pragmatic trials in OA research. We identify this as a point of opportunity to improve research translation, since optimizing the design and reporting of pragmatic trials can facilitate implementation of evidence-based interventions for OA care.

To evaluate work productivity and its economic burden in SSc patients. ⋯ SSc is associated with considerable unemployment and reduced productivity, which in turn is associated with a substantial economic burden and poor HRQoL. Raising awareness and identifying modifiable factors are possible ways of reducing this burden.

Characteristics of the musculoskeletal symptoms observed among survivors of Ebola virus disease in the Postebogui cohort in Guinea.
Previous studies show that arthralgia is the most common symptom experienced by Ebola virus disease (EVD) survivors. Nevertheless, specific analyses of rheumatological sequelea are still lacking. ⋯ Results from the study come from the first complete rheumatological examination of a cohort of EVD survivors, nearly 9 months after Ebola Treatment Centre discharge. Importantly, we found that patients with arthralgia/myalgia included in the Eborheum cohort were more likely to experience depression than survivors not reporting these symptoms, highlighting the impact of pain symptoms among survivors.
