Assessment of combined semi-axial and semi-coronal SI joint MRI in two cohorts of young athletes to explore frequency and topography of non-specific bone marrow oedema (BMO), its association with four constitutional SI joint features, and potential restriction of false-positive assignments of Assessment of SpondyloArthritis International Society-defined sacroiliitis on standard semi-coronal scans alone. ⋯ Semi-axial combined with standard semi-coronal scans in MRI protocols for sacroiliitis facilitated recognition of non-specific BMO, which clustered in posterior lower ilium/anterior upper sacrum.

The risk of uveitis in patients with JIA receiving etanercept: the challenges of analysing real-world data.
To describe and compare the occurrence of newly diagnosed uveitis in children with JIA receiving MTX, etanercept, adalimumab and infliximab. ⋯ In this first paper to compare the rate of new onset uveitis across the three main anti-TNF therapies used in JIA, a new diagnosis of uveitis is less common among patients starting biologics compared with MTX, although this did not reach statistical significance. The suggested protective effect of etanercept is likely explained by confounding, whereby patients in the MTX cohort are younger and earlier in disease, and therefore at greater risk of developing uveitis compared with etanercept patients.

Trends of venous thromboembolism risk before and after diagnosis of gout: a general population-based study.
To estimate the overall risk and the temporal trend of venous thromboembolism (VTE), deep vein thrombosis (DVT), and pulmonary embolism (PE) before and after gout diagnosis in an incident gout cohort compared with the general population. ⋯ Increased risks of VTE, DVT and PE were found both before and after gout diagnosis. The risk increased gradually before gout, peaking in the year prior to diagnosis, and then progressively declined. Gout-associated inflammation may contribute to venous thrombosis risk.
