Multicenter Study
Incorporating natural language processing to improve classification of axial spondyloarthritis using electronic health records.
To develop classification algorithms that accurately identify axial SpA (axSpA) patients in electronic health records, and compare the performance of algorithms incorporating free-text data against approaches using only International Classification of Diseases (ICD) codes. ⋯ Algorithms incorporating free-text data can accurately identify axSpA patients in electronic health records. Large cohorts identified using these novel methods offer exciting opportunities for future clinical research.

[18F]Fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG)-PET/CT and US are both well established for diagnosing GCA. The present study investigates their accuracy and whether they provide overlapping or complementary information in a cohort of patients presenting with suspicion of GCA. ⋯ PET/CT measuring vessel wall metabolism and US vessel wall morphology showed a comparable diagnostic accuracy for GCA. However PET/CT and US were often discrepant within single vascular regions. Thus PET/CT and US should be considered as complementary methods, with a second imaging modality increasing the diagnostic yield by 16-20%.

Scientific journals and authors are frequently judged on 'impact'. Commonly used traditional metrics are the Impact Factor and H-index. However, both take several years to formulate and have many limitations. Recently, Altmetric-a metric that measures impact in a non-traditional way-has gained popularity. This project aims to describe the relationships between subject matter, citations, downloads and Altmetric within rheumatology. ⋯ Disease area did not correlate with any of the metrics compared. Correlations were apparent with clear links between downloads and citations. Altmetric identified different articles as high impact compared with citation or download metrics. In conclusion: tweeting about your research does not appear to influence citations.

Macrophage-mannose receptor, CD206, is a marker of alternatively activated macrophages. Activated macrophages play key roles in DM. Interstitial lung disease (ILD) is a leading cause of mortality in patients with DM/clinically amyopathic DM (CADM). In particular, patients with the anti-melanoma differential gene 5 antibody (MDA5) frequently develop fatal rapid progressive ILD. This study aimed to evaluate the clinical implications of alternatively activated macrophages in patients with CADM/DM-ILD with anti-MDA5 antibody (MDA5-CADM/DM-ILD). ⋯ Levels of serum sCD206 are increased in MDA5-CADM/DM-ILD and associated with poor prognosis. sCD206 is a potential biomarker to predict the severity of MDA5-CADM/DM-ILD.
