[Occupational medicine in public health service--evaluation results of an continuing education symposium].
The demand for a quality controlled and quality proved continuing medical education (CME) has grown in the past. Especially the German "Bundesärztekammer" (society of physicians of Germany) has developed new models for CME and it's evaluation. ⋯ The comparative analysis of the results indicates the feasibility of the instrument and the validity of the results when used together with the results on an open discussion at the end of the symposium. It also demonstrates the value of the evaluation for future planning of comparable programs.

Bleeding in the ENT area necessitates fast action to recognize and to stop the bleeding as well as to avert upcoming dangers. Prerequisite for a diagnostic is a good source of light via the reflector or the endoscope. During bleeding from wounds in the ears, nose, and throat, additional sources of bleeding from the mentioned cavities have to be excluded. ⋯ A blue-red colored tonsil with a fresh bleeding from mucosal chaps is seen as a warning indication of a tonsillogenic arrosion bleeding. Bleeding from the hypopharynx and the larynx necessitate the endotracheal intubation. Bleeding from the ear do not have to lead to rushed actions.

The care for elderly patients is traditionally a task of the general practitioner and will be of increasing importance in the future. Medical considerations focus on the patient's functional abilities which should play a primary role. These should, however, not neglect the patient's resources for the development of social and mental competence. ⋯ This will support the development of a special geriatric quality management in general practice. There is a need for further development of ambulatory rehabilitation for the elderly. The general practitioner in this field will have to control the teamwork with rehabilitation-professionals and professionals from the social support services.
