Effect of Glittered Nail Polish on Pulse Oximetry Measurements in Healthy Subjects.
Pulse oximeter is a simple and noninvasive standard device to monitor the saturation of peripheral oxygen (SpO2) and heart rate. The nail polish of different colors may result in inaccurate oximetry reading and interpretation of oxygen saturation. This study aimed at determining the effect of different colors of glittered nail polish on SpO2 in healthy students. ⋯ We conclude that different colors of glittered nail polishes do not result in a clinically significant change in pulse oximetry measurements in healthy subjects; therefore, it is not necessary to remove the glittered nail polish routinely in clinical, surgical, and emergency settings.

Reminding the Health Team About What Companions of the Patients Undergoing Gynecological Surgery Should Know: A Qualitative Study.
Patients' family members often do not receive sufficient information, especially because the reproductive system of women is considered a taboo, providing information becomes problematic. The aim of the current study was to explore the informational-educational needs of companions of the patients who were undergoing gynecological surgery. ⋯ According to the results, "the need for knowing" is one of the most important needs of the patients' companions during hospitalization. Knowing companions' needs in the hospital and understanding its deficiencies would assist health care professionals, especially authorities, in providing high-quality care and developing programs to meet the informational needs of patients' companions.

The lack of clear standards of clinical competency indicators challenges evaluation. The purpose of this study was to determine clinical competency indicators and its priority based on nurses' views in educational and therapeutic centers in Guilan. ⋯ Achieved competencies can be used as a reference for nursing education and practice in emergency. Further research on health care system is needed in order to achieve a reliable and valid instrument.
