Programmed cell death ligand-1 (PD-L1) expression combined with CD8 tumor infiltrating lymphocytes density in non-small cell lung cancer patients.
Cancer immunotherapy targeting programmed cell death-1/programmed cell death ligand-1 (PD-1/PD-L1) pathway has shown promising results in treatment of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients. T cells play a major role in tumor-associated immune response. This study aimed to investigate PD-L1 expression alone and combined with CD8 tumor infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) density in relation to clinicopathologic parameters and survival in NSCLC patients. ⋯ PD-L1+/CD8Low group was significantly related to advanced tumor stage compared to PD-L1+/CD8high and PD-L1-/CD8Low groups (pairwise p = 0.001 and 0.013 respectively). PD-L1-/CD8high group exhibited the best OS and PFS whereas PD-L1+/CD8low group had the poorest OS and PFS (p value = 0.032 and 0.001 respectively). Assessment of PD-L1 combined with CD8 TILs density, instead of PD-L1 alone, suggested important prognostic relevance in NSCLC patients.

Peritoneal carcinomatosis in colorectal cancer: Defining predictive factors for successful cytoreductive surgery and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy - A pilot study.
Peritoneal carcinomatosis originating from colorectal cancer (PC-CRC) carries a dismal prognosis. Cytoreductive surgery (CRS) combined with hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) have been offered to those patients with substantial health and economic burden, nevertheless not all patients are fitting this treatment modality and outcome is generally still poor. ⋯ In patients with PC-CRC, malignant ascites and PCI > 20 are poor prognostic factors associated with failure to accomplish CRS with consequent poor survival.

Combined percutaneous radiofrequency ablation and cementoplasty for the treatment of extraspinal painful bone metastases: A prospective study.
About 50% of patients with cancer develop bone metastasis mainly presenting with distressing, drug-resistant pain. ⋯ Combined radiofrequency ablation and cementoplasty is a safe and effective pain relief modality in patients suffering from extraspinal painful bone metastases with improvement of the quality of life.

Cancer incidence and mortality are associated with human development index and health setups in Africa.
This study aimed to analyse the correlation between cancer incidence and mortality and the Human Development Index (HDI) in Africa. Furthermore, to analyse the variations in cancer Mortality to Incidence Ratio (MIR) based on health care systems in African countries. ⋯ Based on their HDIs, different African countries has different health system attainments, which is the cause of variations in MIR in these countries. To control their cancer burden, these low and medium HDI countries should focus on improvement of their economic status and policies making, regarding the provision of better health systems to the masses.
