Depression has been reported in some patients treated with isotretinoin, an effective medication for nodulocystic acne, a serious disorder resulting in permanent scarring. Since major depression, a common disorder associated with multiple health risks including suicide attempts and treatment noncompliance, may occur during the course of treatment with isotretinoin, persons treated with isotretinoin must be screened for depression before starting treatment and monitored for depression regularly during the course of treatment with isotretinoin. Those with evidence of depression must then be referred for prompt treatment to abort serious adverse outcomes, including suicide. Psychologists constitute key members of the treatment team of patients taking isotretinoin.

Randomized Controlled TrialAn experimental investigation of justice-based service recovery on customer satisfaction, loyalty, and word-of-mouth intentions.
Service recovery is related to many important organizational outcomes such as customer satisfaction, loyalty, and profitability. Within the theoretical framework of organizational justice, an experiment using a simulated "live" service failure was used to assess the effects of justice-based service-recovery strategies on customer satisfaction, loyalty, positive word-of-mouth intentions, and negative word-of-mouth intentions. ⋯ Satisfaction and loyalty for those in the failure conditions were equal to, although not higher than, in the no-failure control condition. Practical implications for organizational practices are discussed.

Incidence of depression related to isotretinoin treatment in 100 acne vulgaris patients.
The incidence of depression in acne patients using isotretinoin was assessed in 100 patients with moderate and nodulocystic acne. All patients received 0.75-1.00 mg/kg/day of isotretinoin for 20-28 weeks after acne was assessed. All patients' acne lesions were improved at the end of the treatment period. ⋯ Although Hamilton scores increased at Month 3 over baseline scores, except for one patient, others' scores remained below the subclinical level for depression. At the end of Month 6, the mean score decreased below that at Month 3. These changes in means might be related to the onset of clinical effect of isotretinoin.

Comparative StudyGerman version of the Kuwait University Anxiety Scale: psychometric parameters.
A German translation of the Kuwait University Anxiety Scale, written originally in Arabic, was prepared. A sample of 207 men and women German college students was recruited. Coefficient alpha was .88, whereas the item-remainder correlations ranged from .21 to .63, denoting good internal consistency. ⋯ German students scored lower (less anxious) than students from the U. S. and 18 Arab countries. The sex difference was not significant for the German sample.

The purposes of the present study were to develop a Parenting Scale of Inconsistency and to evaluate its initial reliability and validity. The 12 items assess the inconsistency among parents' moods, behaviors, and attitudes toward children. In the primary study, 517 participants completed three measures: the new Parenting Scale of Inconsistency, the Parental Bonding Instrument, and the Depression Scale of the General Health Questionnaire. ⋯ Construct validity was good as Inconsistency scores were significantly correlated with the Care and Overprotection scores of the Parental Bonding Instrument and with the Depression scores. Moreover, Inconsistency scores' relation with a dimension of parenting style distinct from Care and Overprotection suggested that the Parenting Scale of Inconsistency had factorial validity. This scale seems a potential measure for examining the relationships between inconsistent parenting and the mental health of children.
