Multicenter Study Comparative StudyRevascularization in severe left ventricular dysfunction: outcome comparison of drug-eluting stent implantation versus coronary artery by-pass grafting.
We compared the outcome of drug eluting stent (DES) implantation (Sirolimus or Paclitaxel) in patients with ischemic cardiomyopathy and severe left ventricular (LV) dysfunction with the outcome of a similar group of patients undergoing coronary artery by-pass grafting (CABG). ⋯ In selected high risk patients with severe LV dysfunction revascularization with DES implantation offers comparable long term mortality and MACCE rate to CABG patients.

Advances in the identification of vulnerable plaque can be an important step in preventing myocardial infarction and sudden cardiac death. The recognition that non-flow-limiting plaques often produce cardiac events has led to the development of invasive and non-invasive methods to identify such plaques prospectively. This review will present the use of noninvasive imaging modalities for identifying vulnerable plaque such as computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging. We will also review the different invasive modalities such as intravascular magnetic resonance imaging, intravascular ultrasound, coronary angioscopy, coronary thermography, optical coherence tomography, near-infrared spectroscopy, and palpography.

Device closure of muscular ventricular septal defects in infants less than one year of age using the Amplatzer devices: feasibility and outcome.
In this study, we evaluated the feasibility, safety, and outcome of device closure of muscular ventricular septal defects (mVSD) in infants less than 1 year of age using the Amplatzer devices. ⋯ In infants less than 1 year of age, percutaneous and perventricular device closure of mVSDs is technically feasible and highly effective with low morbidity. Long term safety and efficacy needs to be assessed.

Case ReportsPort-a-Cath perforation of the right atrium closed with an amplatzer ASD occluder.
Right atrial perforation can lead to tamponade and death. Closure devices are used for sealing of shunts in the heart. We describe an indwelling catheter that caused perforation of the right atrium and was treated with a percutaneous closure device.

Case ReportsEndovascular treatment of intra-aortic balloon pump-induced acute limb ischemia.
The development of acute limb ischemia in patients following intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) placement remains a frequent event that presents a significant management challenge. We report two recent cases of this clinical event from our institution, which demonstrate that endovascular therapies may be used to treat acute limb ischemia in this setting without requiring removal of the IABP.
