Comparative Study Observational StudyOutcomes of small coronary artery stenting with bare-metal stents versus drug-eluting stents: results from the NHLBI Dynamic Registry.
Examine 1-year outcomes of patients with small coronary arteries in the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute Dynamic Registry (NHLBI) undergoing drug-eluting stent (DES) vs. bare-metal stent (BMS) placement. ⋯ In this real-world registry, patients with small coronary arteries treated with DES had significantly lower rates of repeat revascularization and major adverse cardiovascular events at 1 year compared to patients treated with BMS, with no increase in the risk of death and MI. These data confirm the efficacy and safety of DES over BMS in the treatment of small coronary arteries in routine clinical practice.

Case ReportsTranscatheter trans-apical closure of paravalvular mitral and aortic leaks using a new device: first in man experience.
This report describes the first use of a new paravalvular leak (PVL) device designed specifically to close paravalvular mitral and paravalvular aortic leaks. The first patient had severe paravalvular mitral leak that was closed using the transapical route with a rectangular designed PVL device that has an oval waist for self-centering and the second patient had moderate paravalvular aortic leak that was closed with a square designed device that has a round waist for self-centering. Both patients had complete closure.

Observational StudyPercutaneous coronary intervention for acute coronary syndrome due to graft failure: use of bare-metal and drug-eluting stents and subsequent long-term clinical outcome.
To describe clinical outcome after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for acute coronary syndrome (ACS) due to graft failure. ⋯ In patients presenting with ACS due to acute graft failure, long-term outcomes remain poor. In a nonrandomized comparison with BMS, DES use was not associated with significant improved long-term clinical outcomes.

Case ReportsNew frontier for intracardiac devices: endobronchial occlusion of bronchopleural fistula with CERA device.
We report on a 57-year-old patient suffering from advanced squamous cell carcinoma of the left lung, ultimately submitted to intrapericardial left pneumonectomy with hilar and mediastinal lymphadenectomy. Imaging examination showed a left bronchopleural fistula that needed to be occluded. ⋯ The procedure was successful and the patient was discharge from the hospital 5 days thereafter. Endobronchial closure of bronchopleural fistulas with intracardiac devices is feasible and may become an excellent option for those very ill patients.
