Chronic kidney disease and the risk of stent thrombosis after percutaneous coronary intervention with drug-eluting stents.
Chronic kidney disease (CKD) has been demonstrated to be associated with adverse clinical outcomes for patients with coronary artery disease (CAD). However, data on relation of CKD and stent thrombosis (ST) after drug-eluting stent (DES) implantation are limited. ⋯ CKD is significantly associated with increased incidence of 1-year definite or probable ST in patients undergoing PCI with DES.

Case ReportsStroke due to late device thrombosis following successful percutaneous patent foramen ovale closure.
We report a case of stroke due to device thrombosis occurring three years following percutaneous patent foramen ovale (patent foramen ovale) closure with an Amplatzer atrial septal occluder device. We discuss risk factors that may have contributed to device thrombosis and raise concerns regarding the lack of a dedicated PFO closure device for clinical use in the United States.

Conversations in cardiology: using new media to transmit timely medical knowledge. How do you assess the left main stenosis with FFR and IVUS in a patient with multivessel CAD?
Conversations in Cardiology is a new use of modern email communication to facilitate transfer of medical knowledge. In this Conversation in Cardiology, Dr. Barry Uretsky of Little Rock Arkansas asked a question about a patient with left main narrowing and the assessment by FFR and IVUS and several well known expert interventionalists address the clinical dilemma. Their answers and rebuttals are reflective of areas of agreement and disagreement and demonstrate the educational value of this format from expert opinion on problems not readily addressed by reference books or formal data studies.
