The low anterior resection syndrome (LARS) score is a simple and valid instrument for measuring bowel dysfunction after sphincter-preserving surgery (SPS) among rectal cancer patients. We aimed to translate the LARS score into Chinese, and to test its reliability and validity among Chinese rectal cancer patients. ⋯ The Chinese version of the LARS score had good psychometric properties and can be used in clinical and research settings in the Chinese population.

Pain is a common symptom in cancer patients and often the most tangible sign of disease they and their families perceive. Despite currently available treatments, cancer pain frequently remains underrated and undertreated because of lack of adherence to the prescribed drug regimen. With this study we sought to identify elements that could facilitate pain management by exploring through narrative interviews the lived experiences of patients with severe chronic cancer pain in relation to their adherence to pain therapy. ⋯ Probing into the significance of the pain experience and its treatment through these narrative interviews revealed several core constituents of adherence. Healthcare providers can use this better understanding to build a trusting relationship with patients and foster adherence to treatment throughout the care pathway.

To assess factors perceived to influence nurses' use of symptom protocols when providing remote management for oncology patients. ⋯ Several barriers and facilitators were perceived to influence the use of symptom protocols. Nurses and patients/family members identified similar factors. Interventions are needed to overcome barriers to nurses using the protocols such as education, clear organizational mandate, and integration with documentation.

Caring behaviours in cancer care in Greece. Comparison of patients', their caregivers' and nurses' perceptions.
Although, within cancer nursing the concept of caring is central, there are limited studies comparing nurses', patients' and caregivers' views of care, especially in non-Anglo-Saxonic cultures. We explored and compared perceptions of caring behaviours by cancer patients, their caregivers, and nurses in Greece, as well as associations with demographic variables. ⋯ These findings demonstrate important similarities and discrepancies in the way Greek cancer patients, caregivers and their nurses perceive caring behaviours, and they illustrate the mainly technical orientation of cancer nursing care in Greece.

A comparison of dioctahedral smectite and iodine glycerin cream with topical mouth rinse in treatment of chemotherapy induced oral mucositis: a pilot study.
To compare the efficacy of dioctahedral smectite and iodine glycerin (DSIG) cream with topical mouth rinse (composed of saline, gentamicin and Vitamin B12) in treatment of chemotherapy induced oral mucositis (OM). ⋯ Compared with topical mouth rinse, DSIG cream significantly lowered the OAG score and shortened OM duration.
