The present study compared adherence to the fasting-time guidelines of the International Committee for the Advancement of Procedural Sedation (ICAPS) and the North American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) and complication rates in pediatric patients requiring procedure sedation and analgesia during treatment in the emergency room (ER). ⋯ The fasting recommendations of the ICAPS guidelines, which propose risk stratification to determine the appropriate fasting time for procedural sedation and analgesia, are more tolerable to patients and has no apparent difference in the rate of adverse events to ASA guidelines.

The aims of this study were to evaluate the outcomes of patients with severe bronchiolitis who received preemptive high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC) treatment according to the authors' protocol, and to identify potential baseline characteristics that might predict patients who will not benefit from HFNC. ⋯ Preemptive HFNC treatment, complying with a preestablished protocol, might be a safe way to support patients with severe bronchiolitis in high-volume, resource-limited pediatric emergency departments. The existence of a chronic condition, significant tachycardia, dehydration, and a venous pH <7.30 at admission could be risk factors for preemptive HFNC treatment failure in severe bronchiolitis.

Efficacy of Buzzy® on pain and anxiety during catheterization in children.
The use of a peripheral intravenous cannula is a common clinical practice, and it is known to be a major source of pain and anxiety in children. The aim of this study was to examine the effect of the use of the Buzzy® on pain and anxiety in children during peripheral cannula application. ⋯ In this study, unlike most studies in the literature, the conclusion was reached that the use of the Buzzy® to reduce pain and anxiety during the application of a peripheral intravenous cannula in children was not effective.

The aim of this study was to assess the efficacy of our simple landmark technique for laparoscopic detorsion and the Ladd's procedure (lap-Ladd) for malrotation with midgut volvulus in neonates and to identify the risk factors for reoperation after the lap-Ladd. ⋯ Our simple landmark lap-Ladd procedure demonstrated feasibility and good short-term outcomes in neonates with malrotation, regardless of the presence or absence of volvulus.
