Comparative StudyUltrasound measurements versus invasive intracranial pressure measurement method in patients with brain injury: a retrospective study.
The invasive method for intracranial pressure measurement is 'gold standard' but not always feasible because the intraventricular catheter/ intraparenchymal micro transducer used in the measurement of intracranial pressure measurement may cause complications. Imaging modalities with clinical examination protocol have a lack of specificity and accuracy. The objective of the study was to compare the accuracy of diagnostic parameters of ultrasound measurements in patients with brain injury underwent invasive intracranial pressure measurement method. ⋯ III.

Quantifying cervical spondylosis: reliability testing of a coherent CT-based scoring system.
Grading of degeneration of the cervical spine is of great clinical value, considering the vast amount of radiological investigations that are being done with this query. Despite the fact that Computed Tomography (CT) is frequently used in clinical practice there is today no user-friendly and reliable scoring system for assessment of cervical spondylosis on CT-scans available. The aim of this study was to establish a scoring system for cervical spondylosis based on CT-scans and to test it for reliability. ⋯ This coherent scoring system assessing both disc degeneration and facet joint degeneration on CT-scans of the cervical spine was shown to meet the standards of reliability.

Multi-atlas active contour segmentation method using template optimization algorithm.
Brain image segmentation is the basis and key to brain disease diagnosis, treatment planning and tissue 3D reconstruction. The accuracy of segmentation directly affects the therapeutic effect. Manual segmentation of these images is time-consuming and subjective. Therefore, it is important to research semi-automatic and automatic image segmentation methods. In this paper, we propose a semi-automatic image segmentation method combined with a multi-atlas registration method and an active contour model (ACM). ⋯ In this paper, we propose a semi-automatic brain image segmentation method. The main contributions of this paper are as follows: 1) Our method uses a multi-atlas registration method based on affine transformation, which effectively reduces the multi-atlas registration time compared to the complex nonlinear registration method. The average registration time of each target image in the IBSR datasets is 255 s, and the average registration time of each target image in the MRBrainS13 datasets is 409 s. 2) We used a template optimization algorithm to improve registration error and generate a continuous IAC. 3) Finally, we used a ACM to segment the target tissue and obtain a smooth continuous target contour.

Case ReportsSequential occurrence of eclampsia-associated posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome and reversible splenial lesion syndrome (a case report): proposal of a novel pathogenesis for reversible splenial lesion syndrome.
Posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome (PRES) is a rare clinic-radiological entity characterized by headache, an altered mental status, visual disturbances, and seizures. Reversible splenial lesion syndrome (RESLES) is a new clinic-radiological syndrome characterized by the presence of reversible lesions with transiently restricted diffusion (cytotoxic edema) in the splenium of the corpus callosum (SCC) on magnetic resonance (MR) images. Here we report a rare case involving a 23-year-old pregnant woman with eclampsia who sequentially developed PRES and RESLES. ⋯ The sequential occurrence of the two reversible diseases in our patient prompted us to propose a novel pathogenesis for RESLES. Specifically, we believe that the vasogenic edema in PRES was reduced with mannitol treatment, which increased the hyperosmotic stress and opened the blood-brain barrier; meanwhile, upregulation of aquaporin-4 expression secondary to the increased osmotic pressure resulted in cytotoxic edema in the astrocytes in SCC (RESLES). Further research is necessary to confirm this possible pathogenesis.

Multi-parametric effect in predicting tumor histological grade by using susceptibility weighted magnetic resonance imaging in tongue squamous cell carcinoma.
Susceptibility weighted imaging (SWI) is helpful for depicting hemorrhage, calcification, and increased vascularity in some neoplasms, which may reflect tumor grade. In this study, we aimed to apply SWI in patients with oral tongue squamous cell carcinomas (OTSCCs) and relate multi-parametric effect to tumor histological grade prediction. ⋯ In conclusion, SWI was superior in depiction of internal characteristics of OTSCCs, which would potentially provide more diagnostic information. Multi-parametric model using combination of ITSSs and tumor thickness would be valuable in predicting tumor histological grade.
