Rapid transmission of the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 has led to the novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. The current emphasis is on preventive strategies such as social distancing, face mask, and hand washing. ⋯ We postulate that hypertonic saline gargles and nasal wash may be useful in prevention and for care of patients with COVID-19. The present evidence emphasizes the need of randomized controlled trials to evaluate the role and mechanism of nasopharyngeal wash in COVID-19.

The accidental aspiration of foreign bodies (FBs) is a rare occurrence in adults. However, inhalation of scarf pin is a phenomenon more and more common in the context of Muslim nations. The aim of our study was to describe the characteristics of this particular FB and illustrate the circumstances and consequences of inhalation. ⋯ Scarf pin inhalation is common in women who wear the Islamic headscarf. Bronchoscopy is an important tool to manage these FBs, but the best prevention treatment is careful handling of these potentially sharp objects away from the mouth.

Acute exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (AECOPD) are common and often fatal; however, accurate prognosis of patients hospitalized with an exacerbation is difficult. The Dyspnea, Eosinopenia, Consolidation, Acidemia, and Atrial Fibrillation (DECAF) score uses indices routinely available at the time of hospital admission and can accurately predict the inhospital mortality and outcomes in patients hospitalized with AECOPD. ⋯ This study proved that with an increase in the DECAF score, the mortality among patients in AECOPD increased. The DECAF score helps clinicians predict prognosis accurately by identifying low-risk patients potentially suitable for home-based care or early hospital discharge and high-risk patients requiring escalated palliation with high-level care to improve their outcome.

Multiple environmental factors are associated with development of hypersensitivity pneumonitis (HP), and diagnostic algorithms for the diagnosis of HP have been proposed in recent perspectives. ⋯ About 47.3% of patients with new-onset ILD in India were diagnosed with HP, the majority of whom were diagnosed as HP with a high level of confidence. The most common exposures were birds, cooling devices, and visible molds.
