[Course of conservatively treated acute lumbar root compression syndrome. A computer tomography controlled study].
Of 129 patients with an acute lumbar root compression syndrome due to disc herniation 21, who were symptom-free, were examined by computed tomography (CT) on average 276 days after a three-step regimen of conservative treatment. In no instance had there been a deterioration of the original findings. In 14 patients the CT picture continued to demonstrate disc herniation, although the patients were without symptoms. ⋯ There is as yet no easy explanation for regression in case of prolapsed, perhaps even sequestered, disc tissue. It is possible that there have been reparative processes, such as have been described histopathologically in form of ingrown vessels. More plausibly would be a separation of the herniated and/or sequestered disc tissue in form of an asymptomatic sliding into the terminal caudal region.

Case Reports[Bullous phototoxic contact dermatitis caused by Dictamnus albus. The Bible's "burning bush"?].
A bullous phototoxic reaction occurred in a 27-year-old man working with the plant Dictamnus albus. The skin changes disappeared, leaving behind areas of hyperpigmentation, after treatment with corticoid-containing ointments. ⋯ Dictamnus albus may be the biblical "burning bush". Since the plant becoming ever more popular in German gardens, a phytophototoxic reaction should be considered in the differential diagnosis of the described symptoms.

[Changes in silent gallbladder stones. Roentgen-diagnostic and symptomatologic observations over 30 years].
Between 1950 and 1980, a total of 145 patients with pain-free gallstones in the gallbladder and open cystic duct were followed for a mean observation period of 13.5 years. Pigment stones made up 25.5% of the total, cholesterol the rest. Growth of stones was noted in 70% of cases, new stones in 14%, and calcification in 25%. ⋯ Cholecystectomy should be limited to large, old stones, to prevent gallstone ileus. Recently formed cholesterol stones should be removed as soon as possible by litholysis. Otherwise expectant waiting with regular follow-up is indicated.

Case Reports[Successful treatment of a massive pulmonary embolism after 90-minute external heart massage].
A 27-year-old woman sustained a massive pulmonary embolism (cause unknown) with circulatory arrest. She was intubated and ventilated while external cardiac massage was performed and urokinase was infused (1.5 X 10(6) U/h). ⋯ No neurological or other sequelae occurred. This case demonstrates that early and continuous resuscitative measures in a general hospital, followed by rapid transfer to a cardiothoracic surgical centre with immediate operation, can achieve a successful outcome.
