[Carbon monoxide poisoning in the autopsy material of the Department of Forensic Medicine, Medical University of Białystok in the years 1998-2003].
In years 1998-2003, carbon monoxide poisonings were a death cause in 121 cases (5.0%) of a total of 2408 autopsy reports reviewed. Possible relationships between carboxyhemoglobin concentration and ethanol concentration, age and gender of the victims were assessed. The place of intoxication was also considered. ⋯ The highest concentration of carboxyhemoglobin was found in the age group of 31-40 years. A protective effect of low ethanol concentration (< 3 per thousand) was noted in persons exposed to CO. The COHb level was measured by the Wolff's method.

Case Reports[Malpractice in internal medicine in the case material of the Forensic Medicine Department, Medical University of Lódź, Poland].
Legal opinions in the area of internal medicine, opinionated by the Forensic Medicine Department, Medical University of Lódź, Poland in 2002, were selected for further analysis and assessment in the course of medical treatment. During this period opinions were given in 20 cases, most of which concerned cardiovascular, secondly respiratory, followed by, endocrine diseases. ⋯ All of the objectionable diagnostic and therapeutic procedures evidenced some form of decisional error. In most cases errors were made in the diagnosis, as a result of neglect in performing necessary examinations, or of erroneous interpretation of results obtained.

The paper portrays the scientific, publicist and teaching activities of Prof. M. Byrdy, with special regard to her residence at the Departments of Forensic Medicine in Cracow (1939-1953) and Bialystok (1954-1984).

Historical Article[Bicentennial of the Kraków Department of Forensic Medicine (1804-2004)].
Due to the bicentennial jubilee of the Kraków Department of Forensic Medicine a session of the XIII Scientific Conference of the Polish Forensic Medicine and Criminology Society will be devoted to its work. The Conference will be held in Kraków on the 15-17 of September 2004. Unpublished archive materials associated with the beginnings of the Department will be presented.
