Comparative Study
[Psychopathology and recidivism among violent offenders with a dual diagnosis. A comparison with other subgroups of violent offenders].
Offenders with a dual diagnose (DD) are more likely than other offenders to repeat delinquent behavior. ⋯ The DD-delinquents under study did not differ fundamentally from other subgroups of (domestic) violent offenders as far as substance-related disorders and psychopathology were concerned. However, they did engage more often in recidivism, committing general or violent offences.

Sexual problems arise frequently among psychiatric patients, either as a symptom of psychiatric disorders or as a side effect of psychotropic medication. However, it is questionable whether in daily practice psychiatrists and trainee psychiatrists give enough attention to patients’ sexual problems. ⋯ The investigation reveals that psychiatrists and trainees give little attention to sexuality problems of patients. The main reason for this seems to be feelings of shame and incompetence. Lack of time was not identified as a significant factor. We believe that the situation will improve considerably if psychiatrists and trainees involved in training programmes and supervisory activities give more attention to sexual problems.

[Myocarditis and cardiomyopathy: underestimated complications resulting from clozapine therapy].
Treatment with clozapine can affect the heart, leading to serious complications such as myocarditis and cardiomyopathy. When in their early stages both illnesses are difficult to diagnose; this can have serious consequences. Recent analyses of clozapine data suggest that particularly myocarditis is possibly more common than has been assumed hitherto. ⋯ Early diagnosis of myocarditis is important because it is a serious condition. Timely recognition of subclinical myocarditis could possibly prevent later complications such as cardiomyopathy. Clinical guidelines are proposed on the basis of the literature.
