[Sleep of 4-month-old infants: bedtime, night waking and sleep problems].
Recently, Japanese infant's bedtime has become late and it is reported that this might have a bad influence on infant's growth. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the actual situation and interrelationships between night waking and other sleep problems in Japanese 4-month -old infant. ⋯ Late bedtime and high proportion of night waking in 4-month-old infants were found to be characteristic in Fukuoka city. There is a possibility that night waking reflects delayed development of circadian rhythms.

[The impact of changing critical values of the early epidemic detection system for infectious disease surveillance in Japan].
It is important to examine how critical values for initiation/termination affect the trend and frequency of epidemic/pre-epidemic warnings with the early epidemic detection system in Japan. Here we looked at the number of epidemic warning/pre-warning weeks and the influence of changing the criteria values for infectious diseases surveillance. ⋯ The present examination of linkage between trends and frequencies of epidemic warnings/ pre-warnings and the critical values in the early epidemic detection system of infectious disease surveillance in Japan confirmed the expected increase with lowering of the threshold. Except for pertussis and rubella, there was no distinct issue with the critical values themselves.

[Production of a fall prevention exercise programme considering suggestions from community-dwelling elderly].
A fall prevention exercise programme, which elderly persons could undertake in their home alone to maintain and improve leg muscle strength, body balance ability and flexibility, was developed. The programme consisted of number of movements from which the best were selected on the basis of participant evaluation. The purpose of this report is to document the actual contents and an examination of the effects of this exercise programme in elderly people. ⋯ This result of intervention suggested that incidence of falls was decreased by the execution of the exercise programme in twelve sessions of fall prevention class and at home.

Analysis of administrative sanctions and criminal prosecutions of doctors in Japan.
To illustrate how administrative sanctions (AS) and criminal prosecution (CP) differ with regard to application with doctors' misconducts. ⋯ CP and AS were shown to have different patterns in their judgments of doctors' crimes or misconducts reflecting the different purposes they pursue: justice by CP and ethics by AS.
