[Changes in community health and welfare services with introduction of the long-term care insurance system in Japan].
In Japan, a long-term care insurance system for elderly people was introduced in April, 2000. We have conducted a survey using a questionnaire in order to explore consequent changes in community health and welfare services. ⋯ Most municipal governments consider that introduction of the long term care insurance system has had a good influence on community health and welfare services. Moreover, our results suggest that the long term care insurance has a beneficial impact on care services themselves.

[Epidemics and related cultural factors for Ebola hemorrhagic fever in Gabon].
The Republic of Gabon experienced epidemics of Ebola hemorrhagic fever (EHF) three times between 1994 and 1997. This study aimed at exploring cultural factors related to the outbreaks. ⋯ This study showed that cultural factors might be very crucial to EHF outbreaks in developing countries. Quick intervention with health education is needed to disseminate appropriate knowledge and persuade people that traditional practices could carry a high risk of infection.

[A study of Article 32 of the Mental Health Act analysis of those who made applications under Article 32].
Article 32 of the Mental Health Act was enacted in 1965 and entitles psychiatric outpatients to financial aid towards payment of psychiatric care costs. Psychiatric outpatients can make applications under Article 32 voluntarily at local public health centers. These centers are operated by the prefectural governments. ⋯ On the other hand, the number of people with neurosis and emotional disorders seemed higher among those who did not apply for the benefits. In addition, the study indicated that a large proportion of those who applied belonged to the 40 s and 50 s age group and to the group with chronic psychiatric problems. All of the above make it clear that Article 32 has been effective in making psychiatric care accessible to those people who suffer from chronic mental diseases over quite a long period time.
