Comparative Study[Effect of endoscopic vidian neurectomy in patients with coexisting allergic rhinitis and bronchial asthma].
Objective: To evaluate the clinical significance of endoscopic vidian neurectomy (EVN) on outcomes in patients with coexisting refractory allergic rhinitis (AR) and bronchial asthma, and to analyze its influence factor. Methods: Clinical data of 109 patients with moderate to severe persistent intractable AR and bronchial asthma who were allocated to the bilateral EVN group (surgery group, 70 cases) or conservative medication group (drug group, 39 cases) from 1 May 2008 to 30 April 2013 in Department of Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery, Third Xiangya Hospital, Central South University were retrospectively analyzed, including 47 cases of male and 62 cases of female aged (32.7±6.8) years. Ninety-five patients were followed up for at least 3 years. ⋯ At the end of the follow-up, the improvement rates for AR and asthma were 90.6% (58/64) and 45.3% (29/64), respectively. Asthma outcomes were significantly improved by controlling rhinitis symptoms in patients whose asthma attacks were induced by "rhinitis onset" or "climate change". Conclusion: For patients with AR and bronchial asthma, EVN can significantly control AR symptoms, and improve asthma outcomes in patients whose asthma attacks are induced by rhinitis onset and/or climate change.

[Inner hair cells loss by carboplatin and the changes of cochlear compound action potential in chinchillas].
Objective: To measure the cochlear compound action potential (CAP) and the densities of hair cells (HCs) along the whole length of the basilar membrane (BM) in adult chinchillas. And to investigate the relationship between the severity of inner hair cells (IHCs) loss and the changes of CAP by using carboplatin-cochlear lesion model. Methods: Totally 18 chinchillas were recruited after ontological evaluation. ⋯ In contrast, a significant CAP threshold shift was seen in subjects receiving two shots of carboplatin (group C), which was accompanied by a loss of 90% IHCs. Conclusions: The CAP thresholds of adult chinchillas show typical open-V shape with the lowest values at 2, 4, and 8 kHz. IHC loss by carboplatin in certain degree is well correlated with CAP amplitude reduction, but does not change the threshold when inner hair cell loss reaches 40%, however, if inner hair cell loss exceeds 80%, the threshold shift of CAP will be inevitable.

[Application of tracheotomy in the treatment of severe cases of COVID-19].
Objective: Todiscuss the the effects, indications and protective measures of tracheotomy for severe cases of 2019 novel corona virus disease(COVID-19)patients. Methods: A retrospectively analyze was conducted to explore the clinical data of ofCOVID-19 patients who received tracheotomy in February to March 2020,descriptive statistics were used to analyze the indication of tracheotomy, particularity of intraoperative treatment and protective measures. Results: A total of 4 cases were included in this article, 3 cases were successfully operated, 1 case of postoperative incision continuous bleeding, there were not other complications and nosocomial infection among the medical staff.the patient's condition was relieved in different degrees after the operation, who remain hospitalized. Conclusion: Tracheotomy for severe cases of COVID-19 can achieve certain curative effect, but the occurrence of tracheotomy related complicationsand nosocomial infection should be effectively controlled, and the risk benefit ratio of tracheotomy should be carefully weighed before surgery.

[Airway management of COVID-19 patients with severe pneumonia].
Patients with severe and critical COVID-19 will develop into acute respiratory distress syndrome in a short time. Noninvasive or invasive positive pressure ventilation will be important means for those patients, which will help to improve the clinical cure rate and reduce the mortality. Effective airway management has a great significance to improve respiratory support, reduce complications, and promote rehabilitation.
