Rapid Geriatric Assessment, Physical Activity, and Sleep Quality in Adults Aged more than 65 Years: A Preliminary Study.
(1) To evaluate geriatric syndromes using the Rapid Geriatric Assessment; (2) To investigate possible association of geriatric syndomes with physical activity and sleep quality in adults aged more than 65 years who applied to outpatients physical medicine and rehabilitation clinic. ⋯ Frailty and sarcopenia were positively correlated with poor sleep quality and negatively correlated with cognition and physical activity. In clinical practice, the Rapid Geriatric Assessment and determination of physical activity level could assist in disability prevention.

Review Meta AnalysisSystematic Review and Meta-Analysis of the Association between Sarcopenia and Dysphagia.
Sarcopenia, an age-related decrease in muscle mass and function, is associated with several potential adverse health outcomes. Its association with another age-related syndrome, dysphagia remains unclear. This systematic review and meta-analysis aims to explore the association between sarcopenia and dysphagia. ⋯ Sarcopenia was positively associated with dysphagia. Prevention and screening of dysphagia is essential among sarcopenic old patients. The causal relationship requires more prospective cohort study for confirmation.

Physical Frailty Is Associated with Longitudinal Decline in Global Cognitive Function in Non-Demented Older Adults: A Prospective Study.
To assess the relationship between physical frailty and subsequent decline in global cognitive function in the non-demented elderly. ⋯ Physical frailty is associated with longitudinal decline in global cognitive function in the non-demented older adults over a period of two years. Physically frail older community-dwellers should be closely monitored for cognitive decline that can be sensitively captured by using the MoCA.

Randomized Controlled TrialThe Effectiveness of a PRoactive Multicomponent Intervention Program on Disability in Independently Living Older People: A Randomized Controlled Trial.
There is an increase in functional limitations and a decline in physical and mental well-being with age. Very few effective lifestyle interventions are available to prevent adverse outcomes such as disability in (pre-) frail older people. The effectiveness of an interdisciplinary multicomponent intervention program to prevent disability in older people in the community was tested. ⋯ The intervention program did not significantly improve daily functioning, quality of life and healthcare consumption among (pre) frail community-dwelling older persons at the one-year follow-up. Participants in the intervention group experienced improvements in walking speed, functional capacity and instrumental activities of daily living. More research is needed to better understand why may benefit and how to identify the target population.

Falls Risk Prediction for Older Inpatients in Acute Care Medical Wards: Is There an Interest to Combine an Early Nurse Assessment and the Artificial Neural Network Analysis?
Identification of the risk of falls is important among older inpatients. This study aims to examine performance criteria (i.e.; sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value and accuracy) for fall prediction resulting from a nurse assessment and an artificial neural networks (ANNs) analysis in older inpatients hospitalized in acute care medical wards. ⋯ Performance criteria for fall prediction resulting from a bedside nursing assessment and an ANNs analysis was associated with a high specificity but a low sensitivity, suggesting that this combined approach should be used more as a diagnostic test than a screening test when considering older inpatients in acute care medical ward.
