Integrative Medicine Group Visits (IMGVs) are an 8-week outpatient medical group visit program for chronic pain patients combining mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR), integrative medicine, and patient education. The authors conducted a qualitative study with IMGV participants to better understand the effects of IMGVs on patients' health. ⋯ Group visits and integrative medicine both offer some potential solutions in the treatment of chronic pain. Models such as IMGVs can help individuals living with chronic conditions, addressing their emotional and physical health needs.

The primary aim was to assess the psychological factors that influence engagement in health behaviors in individuals with chronic pain using a new measure, the Behavioral Engagement Test for Chronic Pain (BET-CP). A secondary aim was to determine preliminary psychometric properties of the BET-CP. ⋯ While patients with musculoskeletal pain have outcome expectancies that are nearly in line with research on behavioral pain treatments, their stringent requirements for symptom benefit may impede engagement in the health behaviors recommended for their pain-related symptoms. Additional psychometric study with larger sample sizes is needed to further validate the BET-CP.

Previous fMRI findings have shown that chronic pain patients display an altered activation and functional connectivity of the pain network. The aim of the present study was to analyze EEG dynamics in fibromyalgia patients (n = 20) and pain-free controls (n = 18) at rest. ⋯ Fibromyalgia leads to an altered dynamic of the brain network involved in the processing of pain even at rest. Furthermore ,: our results provide further support for the feasibility of resting-state EEG analyses as a clinical biomarker for the characterization of chronic pain states.

Medial branch blocks may have unrecognized vascular uptake potentially resulting in false- negative results. ⋯ DS enhances the ability to detect inadvertent vascular flow during medial branch blocks. This study demonstrates that standard live fluoroscopy can miss a small percentage of cases with unintentional vascular uptake during MBB when compared with DS and may contribute to occasional false-negative responses.
