Pain is challenging to diagnose and manage in primary care, especially when patients have limited English proficiency (LEP). Little is known about whether LEP patients can provide pain information that is consistent with the process and the content that providers expect in a clinical interaction. We explore how LEP Hmong patients communicate their pain to providers in primary care settings. ⋯ Findings demonstrate a discordance in the expected process and content of the clinical interaction between LEP Hmong patients and providers, suggesting the need for culturally appropriate pain assessments in this population.

Drug injections and surgery are popular treatments for knee joint osteoarthritis. However, these treatments are invasive, and new noninvasive treatments with similar or better efficacy are needed. Here, we evaluated the application of 4.4 MHz of pulsed radiofrequency (PRF) as a new treatment. ⋯ . Our results indicate that noninvasive PRF application inhibited pain-related behavior and decreased inflammatory cytokine expression in the inflamed knee joints of rats. Accordingly, PRF application can serve as a potential therapeutic treatment to relieve pain associated with peripheral joint/tissue damage or inflammation.

In migraine, there is an altered behavior of patients during the attack and an altered connectivity in the cortical structures modulating and encoding the sensation and pain. Thus, we hypothesized that the extent of the peripersonal space (PPS) and the responses in the PPS may change during a migraine attack. For this reason, we analyzed the modulation of somatosensory blink reflex (SBR) in the PPS during episodic migraine. ⋯ We think that the modulation in the PPS is defective in patients with migraine both during the acute attack and in the interictal phase, suggesting diminished top-down modulation of the SBR.
