Depression predicts chronic pain interference in racially diverse, income-disadvantaged patients.
Chronic pain is one of the most common reason adults seek medical care in the United States, with prevalence estimates ranging from 11% to 40%. Mindfulness meditation has been associated with significant improvements in pain, depression, physical and mental health, sleep, and overall quality of life. Group medical visits are increasingly common and are effective at treating myriad illnesses, including chronic pain. Integrative Medical Group Visits (IMGV) combine mindfulness techniques, evidence based integrative medicine, and medical group visits and can be used as adjuncts to medications, particularly in diverse underserved populations with limited access to non-pharmacological therapies. ⋯ In the context of the associated clinical trial and similar interventions, these insights may inform future treatment optimization, targeting, and application efforts in racialized, income-disadvantaged populations, demographics often neglected in studies of chronic pain.

"Doctor shopping" typically refers to patients that seek controlled substance prescriptions from multiple providers with the presumed intent to obtain these medications for non-medical use and/or diversion. The purpose of this scoping review is to document and examine the criteria used to identify "doctor shopping" from dispensing data in the United States. ⋯ Relatively simple P x D criteria for identifying "doctor shopping" are still the dominant paradigm with the need for ongoing validation. The value of P x D criteria may change through time with more diverse methods applied to dispensing data emerging.

To understand the correlation between oxycodone concentration and drug liking response for immediate-release formulations as they relate to different doses and different routes of administration following manipulation involved in opioid misuse and nontherapeutic use. ⋯ Results indicate that oxycodone concentration-response and duration of drug liking following manipulation via different routes of administration may be an approach for further exploring drug liking effects of opioids.

Interest in perineural platelet-rich-plasma (PRP) injections for the treatment of carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) has increased in recent years. However, evidence supporting the long-term effectiveness of PRP is lacking. Therefore, the aim of our cross-sectional cohort study was to investigate the long-term results of PRP injections for CTS. ⋯ A single perineural PRP injection has a long-term analgesic effect on CTS, especially in mild-to-moderate cases.

Multidimensional aspects of pain have raised awareness about cognitive appraisals, such as perceived injustice (PI) and pain catastrophizing (PC). It has been demonstrated that they play an important role in patients' pain experience. However, the mediating effect of these appraisals has not been investigated in breast cancer survivors (BCS), nor have they been related to fatigue and sleep. ⋯ PI is an important mediator in the relationship of pain on fatigue and sleep, while PC is a mediator on fatigue after cancer treatment. These findings highlight that both appraisals are understudied and open new perspectives regarding treatment strategies in BCS.
