Aortic Lumen Area Is Increased in Ruptured Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms and Correlates to Biomechanical Rupture Risk.
To investigate how 2-dimensional geometric parameters differ between ruptured and asymptomatic abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAAs) and provide a biomechanical explanation for the findings. ⋯ The lumen area is increased in ruptured AAAs compared to diameter-matched asymptomatic AAAs. Furthermore, this finding may in part be explained by a relationship with biomechanical rupture risk parameters, in which lumen area, irrespective of maximum diameter, increases PWS and PWRI. These observations thus suggest a possible method to improve prediction of rupture risk in AAAs by measuring the lumen area without the use of computational modeling.

To compare uncomplicated acute type B aortic dissection (UATBAD) patients with intractable pain/refractory hypertension treated with thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) to UATBAD subjects without these features receiving best medical therapy (BMT). ⋯ TEVAR for UATBAD with intractable pain/refractory hypertension is safe but offers no short-term outcome advantage when compared to UATBAD patients without these features receiving BMT. A significant improvement in aortic remodeling was identified after TEVAR. The potential long-term reintervention and aorta-related mortality benefits of this favorable remodeling have yet to be defined and randomized trials are warranted.

To compare the treatment outcomes in patients with acute proximal deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and iliofemoral stenosis who underwent either direct stenting after AngioJet rheolytic thrombectomy or staged stenting after AngioJet thrombectomy plus catheter-directed thrombolysis with urokinase. ⋯ Both direct and staged stenting are effective treatment modalities for patients with acute proximal DVT. Compared with staged stenting, direct stenting provides similar treatment success and a significant reduction in the length of hospital stay; however, it has lower thrombolysis efficacy, and the risk of PTS at 1 year is greater with direct stenting.
