Randomized Controlled Trial
Efficacy of pelvic floor muscle training and hypopressive exercises for treating pelvic organ prolapse in women: randomized controlled trial.
Previous studies have shown that women with pelvic floor dysfunctions present decreased cross-sectional area (CSA) of the levator ani muscle. One way to assess the effects of training programs is to measure the CSA of the muscle, using ultrasonography. The aim here was to evaluate the efficacy of pelvic floor muscle training and hypopressive exercises for increasing the CSA of the levator ani muscle in women with pelvic organ prolapse. ⋯ The CSA of the levator ani muscle increased significantly with physiotherapy among the women with pelvic organ prolapse. Pelvic floor muscle training and hypopressive exercises produced similar improvements in the CSA of the levator ani muscle.

Effectiveness of intra-articular lidocaine injection for reduction of anterior shoulder dislocation: randomized clinical trial.
Shoulder dislocation is the most common dislocation among the large joints. The aim here was to compare the effectiveness of reduction of acute anterior shoulder dislocation with or without articular anesthesia. ⋯ ISRCTN27127703.

Anemia and blood transfusions are common in intensive care. This study aimed to evaluate epidemiology and outcomes among critically ill patients under a restrictive transfusion strategy. ⋯ In critically ill patients, there was a reduction in hemoglobin with increasing length of ICU stay. Moreover, transfusion was associated with worse prognoses.

Assessing glomerular filtration rate in patients with severe heart failure: comparison between creatinine-based formulas.
Severe heart failure is highly associated with chronic kidney disease (CKD). Serum creatinine is a poor indicator of renal function and glomerular filtration rate (GFR) estimation is an accessible method for assessing renal function. The most popular formulas for GFR estimation are the Cockcroft-Gault (CG), the four-variable Simplified Modification of Diet in Renal Disease (sMDRD) and the recently introduced CKD-Epidemiology Collaboration (CKD-EPI). The objective of the study was to analyze the correlation between these three equations for estimating GFR in patients with severe heart failure. ⋯ Despite the good correlation and agreement between the three methods, the sMDRD formula classified more patients as presenting GFR less than 60 ml/min.

Impact factors are currently the bibliometric index most used for evaluating scientific journals. However, the way in which they are used, for instance concerning the study or journal types analyzed, can markedly interfere with estimate reliability. This study aimed to analyze the citation distribution pattern in three Brazilian journals of general medicine. ⋯ Use of measures like "impact factors", which characterize citations through averages, does not adequately represent the citation distribution in the journals analyzed.
