There is a need for studies that correlate the severity of oral mucositis (OM) with chemotherapy protocols, transient myelosuppression and oral health. ⋯ Individuals with tumors who presented severe OM had greater severity of oral pain and worse oral health. Use of the FOLFIRI protocol was associated with higher prevalence of severe OM, while use of 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) was correlated with worse oral condition.

Apical prolapsus refers to downward displacement of the vaginal apex, uterus or cervix. Pelvic organ prolapse (POP) can significantly affect women's daily activities and sexuality. ⋯ The quality of life and sexual function of the patients who underwent laparoscopic pectopexy were found to have become statistically improved at the midterm follow-up. Laparoscopic pectopexy was found to be a viable, effective and safe procedure.

Gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding is an important cause of mortality and morbidity among geriatric patients. ⋯ The shock index measured among geriatric patients with upper GI bleeding at admission seems to be a more effective predictor of prognosis than other scoring systems.

Stroke is one of the main causes of death worldwide. Educational interventions on stroke are potentially effective in reducing the period between the onset of symptoms and the initial emergency medical assistance. ⋯ There was a knowledge deficit with regard to recognizing stroke and activating the emergency medical services. The findings apply to the sample investigated and suggest that there is a need for stroke educational interventions, starting in high school.
